  • Skyward (Skyward, #1) by Brandon Sanderson – physical book

I was suddenly craving science fiction and just happened to receive this book in the mail at the same time. I’m right at 100 pages into the book so far and I’m really enjoying it! This is actually my first Sanderson book EVER.. Yes, yes, I’m well aware that I’m behind the times! But I’m thinking that I’ll love this one and it’ll really push me into picking up some of his other tomes. Fingers crossed!

  • Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians, #1) by Kevin Kwan

I enjoyed this book. I thought it was fun and entertaining, with a glimpse into life in Singapore. However, you could definitely tell this is a chick-lit novel and didn’t get super deep into specific storyline. I also thought there was a lot of superfluous information and details that made it seem like the author was just trying to show off his knowledge of high end designers. I do plan on finishing the series though, so I can see how Astrid’s story ends.

What do you think you’ll read next?

10483499

  • Fall of Giants (The Century Trilogy, #1) by Ken Follett

I plan on finally diving into this humongous book next. I’ve heard great things about this series and so I’m really excited to pick it up. I’ve enjoyed other works by Follett and so I’m pretty sure that I’ll love this one as well!

What are you currently reading?

  • Kingdom of Ash (Throne of Glass, #7) by Sarah J. Mass – physical book
  • Give the Dark My Love (Give the Dark My Love, #1) by Beth Revis – audiobook

I still haven’t listened much to the audiobook lately. I plan to pick back up with that one today though, as it is a very interesting concept if a little slow this early on in the story. I’m also slowly making my way through the behemoth that is Kingdom of Ash. This book is massive and I’m going a little slower with it since I’d forgotten a lot of what happened previously. However, I am loving the story so far and am actually really invested in every POV (which hardly ever happens!). Then tension continues to build and I’m so scared to find out who won’t make it through the end.

  • Crystal Storm (Falling Kingdoms, #5) by Morgan Rhodes

This was a really great installment in this series. You can really feel all of the tension is building and coming down to the final climax. All of the characters have really developed and you can see the maturity in their thoughts and actions compared to the first book. It’ll be really bittersweet to finish this series. I’m just enjoying it so much!

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’ll finally be diving into some historical fiction next and then finally pick up The Last Magician, which seems to have a lot of fans and that synopsis really intrigues me. I can’t wait to dive in!

  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

  • Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys – audiobook
  • War Storm (Red Queen, #4) by Victoria Aveyard – physical book

Still working my way through Out of the Easy. It’s been crazy at work this past week which has cut into my listening time. Hopefully I can get back into it soon, as I’m really enjoying this story and I can’t wait to dive more into this mystery!

I actually haven’t started War Storm yet. I finished up Furyborn right before I went to sleep last night and so I didn’t have any time to pick it up. I’m super excited and also a little nervous to see how this series is going to end. Maven has become the new Darkling for me and I’m almost sad to find out what happens to him. Because I stand by the fact that the Darkling should’ve had redemption! #stillbitter #justiceforMaven 😉

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) by Marissa Meyer – physical book
  • Furyborn (Empirium, #1) by Claire Legrand – physical ARC

I have to say that I had a very enjoyable reading week. I finished up Winter, which was a really good ending to the Lunar Chronicles series. I do think there was some parts that could’ve been cut out of the story but other than that it was a fun read.

I also binged Furyborn in just a few days. Y’all, I went into this book thinking that it was going to be crap and unoriginal. I WAS WRONG! This book was exciting from start to finish and I am so obsessed now. The hype is real with this one and I don’t think I’m going to survive a full year until the second book is released. I will definitely be purchasing the final copy of this one! Also, please note that I would consider this to be more NA than YA. So if you don’t prefer cursing and sexual content in your books, just know that both are prevalent in this one.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • A Court of Frost and Starlight (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3.1) by Sarah J. Maas – physical book
  • Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali – physical book

It’s probably time to mix in some contemporary with my reading. While it’s not a genre that I normally gravitate towards, I’ve heard really good things about this book! I’m also kind of obsessed with this cover. The girl just looks so chic!

ACOFAS is going to be my first novella… EVER! I actually purchased Sightwitch when it was released as well but I haven’t picked it up yet. However, it’s on my TBR for this month as well, so I guess you could say that I’m about to crash into the world of novellas. Hopefully both of these live up to my expectations!

What are you currently reading?

  • Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys – audiobook
  • Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) by Marissa Meyer – physical book

I haven’t been listening to Out of the Easy very much this past week, as we’ve been really busy at work which takes away from my focus on the story. (I’ve been listening to all of the songs for this year’s Eurovision instead, but that’s not really relevant.) However, I hope that things calm down for the next couple of days so I can get back into the story.

I’ve finally passed the halfway point in Winter. I have to say that the first half of the book was a little slow for me but I’ve finally reached a point where I don’t want to put it down. Things have really picked up and I have to know what’s going to happen next! Also, Winter has personally grown on me. She kind of reminds me of Luna Lovegood, with just a very dreamy quality about her.

What did you recently finish reading?

Nothing…. Sorry, folks!

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Furyborn (Empirium, #1) by Claire Legrand – physical ARC
  • Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali – physical book

My hope is to finish Furyborn before its release date. That would be nice, right? I’ve got my fingers crossed that I can do it. I also feel like I need a little contemporary to mix things up for me right now. I’ve heard really good things about Saints and Misfits and so I’m really excited that I was able to snag a copy from Book Outlet back in the fall for cheap. Love a great bargain! I can’t wait to dive into this story!

What are you currently reading?

  • Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys – audiobook
  • Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) by Marissa Meyer – physical book

Currently still working my way through Out of the Easy. The narrator is probably one of the best ones that I’ve ever listened to. She does such a great job with the accents and really brings the characters to life.

I’m not really far into Winter yet, but just knowing that we get more of Jacin in this book makes me happy. Also, I’ll finally have my Wolf and Scarlet reunion!!!!!!!!!! At least, I hope so. Y’all would tell me if there’s no happy ending for those two, right? Because I don’t want to live in a world where they don’t end up together… TRUTH.

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Gathering Darkness (Falling Kingdoms, #3) by Morgan Rhodes – physical book, 4/5 stars
  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid – physical book, 4/5 stars

I really enjoyed Gathering Darkness. It took the series in a very different way than what I was expecting, especially that ending! What a cliffhanger!

I think that the hype train might’ve affected my overall view of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Everyone mentioned this as being one of their favorite books of 2017 and while I thought it was good, it just didn’t come anywhere near to reaching that kind of love from me. I think my expectations were too high for this one and unfortunately, it didn’t live it up them.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m actually planning to post a May TBR in the next few days, so I think I’ll let you people sweat it out until then… And this has nothing do with the fact that I really don’t know what I want to read next. Nope, not at all.

  • The Big Inch (Misfits and Millionaires, #1) by Kimberly Fish – physical book

I’m currently speeding through this beauty. It’s a self published historical fiction novel written by a local author that’s set in my hometown. Can we talk about just how awesome all of those things are?! I wasn’t really sure how this book was going to be when I first bought it but once I picked it up, I haven’t been able to put it down. It’s got mystery, political intrigue, and forbidden romance, all revolving real events that occurred here during WWII. I’m so excited to see how this one ends!

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente – physical book, 3/5 stars, REVIEW
  • The Shade Hour (The Girl at Midnight, #2) by Melissa Grey – physical book, 3/5 stars

I had an alright reading week, just not really special. I was a little disappointed by Space Opera as it didn’t focus as much on the actual singing competition as I was hoping that it would. If you enjoyed kooky books like Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, then you might enjoy this one more than I did.

The Shadow Hour was decent, if a little slower than the first book was. I do like how it ended though and the cliffhanger has me feeling that the finale will be much better than this one was. Overall this has been a decent series but nothing truly unique or amazing.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  • Gathering Darkness (Falling Kingdoms, #3) by Morgan Rhodes
  • Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3) by Marissa Meyer

These are a few books that I’ve really been meaning to get to lately. I might go with Cress next since I read Scarlet back in the fall and I don’t want to keep pushing it off until I can’t remember anything that happened. (Which is very likely knowing me.) However, I’m really in the mood for historical fiction at the moment so who really knows what I’ll end up actually picking up next. I’m such a mood reader, I swear!

The Shadow Hour (The Girl at Midnight, #2) by Melissa Grey

I’m currently about a 1/4 of the way through this one and am enjoying it so far. It started a bit slower the first book, but I think it’s starting to pick up some now. I’m interested in seeing where the story goes next…. Secretly hoping for dragons to show up, honestly.

What did you recently finish reading?

Obsidio (The Illuminae Files, #3) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

I can’t even with this series.. It’s literally so freaking amazing! I went on such a roller-coaster ride with this book and am blown away on what a great job Kaufman and Kristoff did with it. I’m eagerly waiting for their next series to come out!

What do you think you’ll read next?

35297390

Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente

This is why I love preordering from Amazon, the books actually are delivered to me on their release date. I literally squealed with delight when I opened this one up last night. It’s so shiny and pretty! This will be my first book by Valente that I’ve read, even though I think I own like 3 others. I’ve heard great things about her writing so I’m really looking forward to it! I’m also a hardcore Eurovision fan, so this book is already speaking to me on all kinds of levels.

  • The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy – audiobook

I just started on Obsidio last night and so I’m not very far into it at all. However, I can already see that this finale is going to wreck me so I’ve invested in a box of tissues. I feel like I never fail to at least tear up at series finales. And I just know that Kaufman and Kristoff will wreck my heart with this book.

  • The Fate of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #3) by Erika Johansen – physical book, 5/5 stars

This ending… I just am in awe. This entire series was just amazing and so beautifully written. I really wish that more people would pick it up because it deserves all of the praise. I was talking about it so much that my dad is reading it now and enjoying the first book so far. If you’re looking for a New Adult fantasy that is well written, can get a little dark, and will make you think, then pick this trilogy up. I can’t recommend it enough!

  • Gathering Darkness (Falling Kingdoms, #3) by Morgan Rhodes – physical book
  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid – physical book
  • Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass, #6) by Sarah J. Maas – physical book

I plan to continue on with some of my series and then mix it up a bit with a standalone that everyone has been raving about. I still can’t believe I haven’t picked it up yet either since I got it from Book of the Month Club as soon as it came out. Shame on me!

  • The Fate of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #3) by Erika Johansen – physical book
  • The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy – audiobook

Right now, I am LIVING for The Queen of the Tearling trilogy. I have binged this entire series because I cannot wait to see how this story all ends. There are so many different moving parts and political intrigue that is so engrossing. You never know quite what is going to happen next or what the characters will do. Seriously, this series has become one of my all-time favorites! Why don’t more people talk about this book?!

(I refuse to talk about The Disappearances.)

  • The Invasion of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #2) by Erika Johansen – physical book, 5/5 stars

As soon as I finish the final book, I will be doing a write up on this entire trilogy. Go ahead and get ready to expect a lot of gushing and heart eyes!!!

  • Obsidio (The Illuminae Files, #3) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff – physical book
  • Gathering Darkness (Falling Kingdoms, #3) Morgan Rhodes – physical book

Continuing with my plan to catch up on/finish some series that I’ve started. My copy of Obsidio also just arrived on Monday and I don’t think I can put it off any longer. MUST…. READ… NOWWWWWWW!

After I get through these next couple of books, I think I’ll try and knock some standalones off of my TBR. There’s quite a few that have been sitting on my shelves for a while too. Time for some spring cleaning reading!

  • The Queen of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #1) by Erika Johansen – physical book

Eh, one of these days I’ll finish this damn audiobook even if it kills me!

I finally picked up The Queen of the Tearling after owning the entire trilogy for a while now. I’m not very far into it yet, but I’m loving it so far. It definitely has an epic fantasy feel to it that I think would translate well for a television or movie adaptation. I can’t wait to see how this story plays out!

  • Jackaby (Jackaby, #1) by William Ritter – physical book, 4/5 stars

This ended up being an enjoyable quick read. I really enjoyed the paranormal/fantasy elements mixed in the historical setting. Jackaby is definitely a fun character. If you’re into socially awkward geniuses (think Sherlock Holmes), then you’ll be a big fan of Jackaby.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3) by Marissa Meyer
  • The Shadow Hour (The Girl at Midnight, #2) by Melissa Grey
  • Fuse (Pure, #2) by Julianna Baggott

I’m really hoping to tackle some more of my backlisted series that have been on my shelves for way too long. However, my reading habits have really been all over the place and a bit moody, so I may end grabbing something else. Who knows at this point what to expect for my TBR over the next couple of weeks, haha! SURPRISES!
