My July TBR

Yes, technically we’re already a week into July but I think it counts because we still have 3 weeks left this month and I plan to do a lot of reading. I also am joining the TBR Smash Readathon on bookstagram next week so why not take the time now to figure out what to read! It’s also my blog and I can do what I want. So let’s talk books, eh?!

  • The Guncle by Steven Rowley – audiobook, currently reading
  • A Gathering of Ravens (Grimnir, #1) by Scott Oden – physical book, currently reading
  • The Broken Lands (Arcana, #1) by Kate Milford – ebook, currently reading

What do you plan on reading in July? Do you have a lot of sequels or series that you haven’t caught up on yet? Have you read any of the books on my TBR? If so, what did you think of it?

Currently Reading

  • The Guncle by Steven Rowley – audiobook
  • The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow –  ebook
  • A Gathering of Ravens (Grimnir, #1) by Scott Oden – physical book

I haven’t made much progress into Ravens or The Guncle yet but I hope to really dive into them both this weekend. I’m really liking what I’ve read so far though!

I started January last fall but I just couldn’t make myself get into it. However, I decided to pick it back up again a few days ago and am having a much better experience with it this second time around. It’s almost making me want to try The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue… Almost.

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1) by Kristin Cashore – ebook
  • Harvest of Sighs (Thornchapel, #3) by Sierra Simone – ebook
  • Legendborn (Legendborn, #1) by Tracy Deonn – audiobook

I guess I’ll admit to having the controversial opinion that Legendborn was just alright to me. It didn’t amaze me like it has so many others. I have yet to decide if that was the fault of the audio narrator (who I really didn’t enjoy) or my own issues with the main character. However, I am going to continue with the series and will actually read a physical copy next time.

I also felt like Harvest was a little less exciting for me than the previous two books in the series, but still enjoyable. It was definitely a bumpy ride for the friend group and I hope the next book brings them a little more happy times than this one did.

Graceling  was a surprise for me. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, as older fantasy novels are not always that good. But this one was really enjoyable even if the ending felt a little rushed. I’ll definitely be continuing with the rest of the series.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Covet (Crave, #3) by Tracy Wolff – physical book
  • Libertie by Kaitlyn Greenidge – audiobook
  • The Serpent’s Curse (The Last Magician, #3) by Lisa Maxwell – physical book

What are you currently reading? What books did you finish this week? What are you planning on reading next? Have you read any of the books on my list? If so, what did you think of them? Leave a link to your WWW Wednesday post in the comments below!

The Three W’s are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

  • The Lost Vintage by Ann Mah – audiobook
  • Orphan Monster Spy by Matt Killeen – audiobook
  • Renegades (Renegades, #1) by Marissa Meyer – physical book

I’m not even a fourth of the way through The Lost Vintage but I’m enjoying it so far. I’m definitely learning a lot about wine, which is kind of fun. I love that there is two different stories going on at once and I can’t wait to see how they intertwine. And y’all know that I’m such a sucker for a good historical fiction.

I’ve been listening to more of Orphan Monster Spy but it’s not doing much for me so far. It’s very slow and the writing style isn’t my favorite.

I’m not very far into Renegades yet so I don’t have much of an opinion at the moment. I have heard some great things about this book though and can’t wait to really get into it.

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Lion Heart (Scarlet, #3) by A.C. Gaughen – audiobook
  • Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik – physical ARC

Well Lion Heart was a total disappointment. The overall plot faded to the background in favor of the most gushy and cheesy romance that I’ve read in the longest time. It was a terrible finale to the series and that ending was absolute garbage in that nothing happened. So if you’re looking for a good Robin Hood retelling, just keep moving on because you’re definitely not missing anything here.

Spinning Silver was an interesting story. I have come to terms that Novik’s writing is fairly slow but that doesn’t really bother me. However, I felt what really bogged this story down was all of the POVs. At one point there might have been almost 6 and it was just too excessive. Only 3 really added anything to the overall plot with the others were just filler and dragged the rest of the story down. So unfortunately for me, this book doesn’t measure up to her previous novel, Uprooted.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Love & Luck by Jenna Evans Welch – physical book
  • Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass, #6) by Sarah J. Maas – physical book
  • A Gathering of Ravens by Scott Oden – physical book

My May TBR!

I don’t really know how well I’m going to stick to my TBR for this month but I’m going to really try. I’ve been having a tough time trying to figure out what I read next after I’ve finished the last couple of books, so I’m hoping this will help me focus a little. I’m going for a good mix of books so I don’t get too bored with any one genre. Of course, I am a mood reader so we all know how that goes. Fingers crossed that it works! As I’m also going to NYC for BookCon at the end of the month, I’m really hoping that I can get to all of these before I leave. A girl can dream, right?
