I have done a terrible job keeping up with the bookish community this past year. Maybe that’s why I was affected by so many reading slumps – I wasn’t keeping myself hyped up.

Probably when I finally reach over 1000 followers on my blog. I don’t really promote it a whole lot so it’s been nice to see it grow so much this year.

Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year?

My reading life took a bit of a hit this year from going into so many random reading slumps, which has really affected my will to actually post regularly. It’s something I’m really hoping to not have an issue with this coming year.

February Wrap-Up: Reviews, Reading Challenges, etc.

Woohoo, I had a great reading month in February! I’m super back into the reading groove and I even notice that affecting me in general. I’m back into watching Booktube, I browse Goodreads pretty much every day, and I’ve even started listening to podcasts about books. So yeah, I’m feeling really good right now. I also got back into working out at the gym and I can feel such a difference in how I feel physically, especially in regards to my sleeping habits. So yeah, if you’re having trouble falling asleep or sleeping straight through the night on a regular basis, I totally recommend doing some sort of physical workout or even yoga at night before going to bed… And that is my tip for the day! Haha!

Whiskey When We’re Dry by John Larison – audiobook
Bloodwitch (The Witchlands, #3) by Susan Dennard – physical book

I’m still in the first chapter of Whiskey When We’re Dry so I don’t have an opinion on this one yet. It’s a literary fiction Western which I expect will may it more of a slower listen than my usual historical fiction audiobooks.

Okay, I’m 100 pages into Bloodwitch and it’s making me realize that I should’ve reread the first two books in the series before picking this one up. Two years is a long time between releases and I remember absolutely NOTHING from the previous books. I mean I vaguely remember bits an pieces, but that’s about it. I do remember that I love Aeduan so I can’t complain that he has such a big part in this one.

Reign of Mist (The Oremere Chronicles, #2) by Helen Scheuerer – audiobook

I super enjoyed A Curse So Dark and Lonely. It was a really unique spin on the original fairytale, with some pretty kickass characters. I’m really glad that we’re getting a sequel to the story because there is so much more to explore in this world. I can’t wait to see what will happen next!

Reign of Mist was a really good follow up to the first book. I loved seeing all of the characters come together in different ways, each bringing a new perspective to the war that is brewing. Bleak is still my fave character and Swinton is growing on me as well. I really have no idea what will happen in the next book!

I just really want a happily ever after for Magnus…

A Curse So Dark and Lonely (A Curse So Dark and Lonely, #1) by Brigid Kemmerer – physical book
Reign of Mist (The Oremere Chronicles, #2) by Helen Scheuerer – audiobook

Well I can already tell you that I’m obsessed with A Curse So Dark and Lonely. I’m always a sucker for a good fairytale retelling and this one especially has me hooked. I’m also still enjoying Reign of Mist and should be finishing it up today or tomorrow. This story gets more and more complex and I really like that. I would definitely consider this more of an adult fantasy at this point.

Yes, I absolutely am in love with this book. It was just as amazing as The City of Brass, with even more political intrigue and tension than the first book. I am already dying for the final book to get in my hands. MY HEART CANNOT TAKE THE WAITING!!!!

My copy of Bloodwitch arrived yesterday and I am soooo ready to dive into it. I’ve been waiting for two damn years for this book, haha! Then I plan to finish up the Falling Kingdoms series and move on to Pride.

My February TBR

Yes, I’m aware that we’re already a week into February and I don’t care. It’s been so long since I’ve planned out a monthly TBR that I just really got the itch to try and do that this month. I’ve been having trouble deciding what books to read next lately and I think this will help me not have to agonize over my bookshelves on what to grab. Does anyone else ever hate that feeling where you know you really want to read but can’t decide on what? Yeah, me too.

As you can see, I’m still trying to get through some of my BookCon 2018 ARCs. I’m actually really excited about these two especially. I love a good retelling and I’m always down for any sort of outer space adventure. I’ve also had Tithe on my bookshelf for a long time and it’s way past time to finally picking it up. Plus, Holly Black and faeries go together like peanut butter and jelly. And I have been waiting for Bloodwitch to get released for two years and it’s finally here! I’ve got that one preordered and can’t wait for it to arrive.

The Kingdom of Copper (The Daevabad Trilogy, #2) by S.A. Chakraborty – physical book

I’m not very far into Reign of Mist but I’m really enjoying it so far. This series is sooo good and I can’t believe I’ve never heard anyone talking about it. It’s fairly gritty and I’d rather classify it as adult fantasy along the lines of The Queen of Tearling, even though it’s being labeled as YA.

I’m not as far into The Kingdom of Copper as I was hoping I’d be by now, but I’ve just been so tired lately that every time I pick it up, I start dozing off. And no, it’s not because the story is boring either. I really hope I can truly dive into this one tonight. I cannot wait to find out what’s going to happen to all of my sweet babies!

I absolutely loved Heart of Mist (which is probably obvious since I’m already moving on to the sequel). I love the epic scope of the plot and really like all of the characters. Four Dead Queens was not my favorite read. It was a really forgettable novel and I was super disappointed that all of the interesting pieces couldn’t come together to save the overall story. And I just knew that I was going to love it, too… Archenemies was a pretty good follow-up to Renegades. I was a little sad that we didn’t get to experience more of the Anarchists though this time around, as they were kind of stuck farther in the background. But I’m super excited to see how it’ll all come to a head in the finale!

Keeping up finishing up my BookCon 2018 ARCs with Pride. I’m always a sucker for a retelling and I think it’s the perfect time to pick this one up since it’s Black History Month. I still feel shame for having put it off for so long. I also need to finish up the Falling Kingdoms series and see how it all ends. And I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally picking up A Curse So Dark and Lonely after reading a sampler of it at BookCon last year. GIMME, GIMME, GIMME!

January Wrap-Up: Reviews, Reading Challenges, etc.

And just like that, January was already over with. Which means I’m officially 28 years old and getting that much closer to my 30’s and spinsterhood. HA! Only kidding… But I have to say that I’ve started off my reading year really well. I was flying through books this past month which was a nice little surprise. Such a great way to start the year, right?
