Currently Reading

  • All of Us Villains (All of Us Villains, #1)  by Amanda Foody & Christine Lynne Herman – ebook, ARC
  • The Bone Season (The Bone Season, #1)  by Samantha Shannon – audiobook, reread

I’m a little over halfway through Villains and am LOVING it! This book is dark with so many different layers to it. I love how the different families are all super complicated and interesting in different ways. It also has a creepiness factor that would make for the perfect Halloween read… Hint Hint!

I’m also about a third of the way through the audio for The Bone Season. This is my third reread of the series, but I always have to do this when a new sequel comes out as there’s such a long time between releases. Ya girl needs a refresh!

What did you recently finish reading?

  • The Witch Haven by Sasha Peyton Smith – ebook, ARC
  • The Guncle by Steven Rowley – audiobook
  • Covet (Crush, #3)  by Tracy Wolff – physical book

I really enjoyed every single of these! You could say I definitely had a really good reading week last week. If you want to know more about The Witch Haven before its release on the 30th, please check out my full review that I posted yesterday!

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Crystal Crowned (Air Awakens, #5)  by Elise Kova – ebook
  • The Iron Queen (The Iron Fey, #3)  by Julie Kagawa – physical book
  • Tilly and the Bookwanderers (Pages & Co., #1)  by Anna James – physical book

What are you currently reading? What books did you finish this week? What are you planning on reading next? Have you read any of the books on my list? If so, what did you think of them? Leave a link to your WWW Wednesday post in the comments below!

Currently Reading

  • The Guncle by Steven Rowley – audiobook
  • Water’s Wrath (Air Awakens, #4) by Elisa Kova – ebook

I’ve finally been listening to Guncle a little bit each night over the past couple of days. I’m really enjoying this book, I just wish I wasn’t so busy at work so I could listen to it more. It’s such a cute and funny book!

I only started Wrath last night so I’m not very far into at all but I’m of course enjoying it so far. Bingeing this series has been a nice palate cleanser and I’m so glad I’m able to read them all via Kindle Unlimited. I don’t think I ever would’ve gotten around to this popular series if it wasn’t for that.

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Air Awakens (Air Awakens, #1) by Elisa Kova – ebook
  • Fire Falling (Air Awakens, #2) by Elisa Kova – ebook
  • Earth’s End (Air Awakens, #3) by Elisa Kova – ebook

I told y’all I was bingeing this series, haha! Seriously, it’s captured all of my attention at the moment so I haven’t really read anything else. It’s a really fun story so far, even I am a little annoyed by the “short heroine” trope. Is it just me or does it seem like almost all heroines are labelled as short? Maybe as a taller than average female, I’m just bitter hahahaha.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Covet (Crush, #3) by Tracy Wolff – physical book
  • Crystal Crowned (Air Awakens, #5)  by Elise Kova – ebook
  • The Witch Haven by Sasha Peyton Smith – ebook, ARC

I’m finally going to actually start on Covet soon… I already made a promise to myself!

  • Air Awakens (Air Awakens, #1) by Elisa Kova – ebook

So no progress on The Guncle over the past weekI really thought I’d get around to listening to it over the weekend but just never found the time. Hopefully soon though!

I only just started the other two books today so I don’t have many thoughts on them just yet but I am very excited for them!

What did you recently finish reading?

  • The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow – ebook
  • The Broken Lands (The Boneshaker, #0.5) by Kate Milford – ebook

I want to just rave and rave about Kate Milford. I only just recently learned of her and started with her middle grade novel, Greenglass House. I want to rave about her work now! This book was even more amazing if that’s possible. It was dark and creepy but also heartwarming. I can’t even explain it but I loved it so much. I think Milford has solidified her place as an insta-buy author for me.

January was also a good book. It did have a really slow start for me (partially why I sat it aside for over 6 months) but I am glad that I continued with it. There are some really great quotes in this book that I would even consider tattooing on my body… FOR REAL.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • The Iron Queen (The Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa – physical book
  • The Serpent’s Curse (The Last Magician, #3) by Lisa Maxwell – physical book
  • The Crown of Gilded Bones (From Blood and Ash, #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout – physical book

My July TBR

Yes, technically we’re already a week into July but I think it counts because we still have 3 weeks left this month and I plan to do a lot of reading. I also am joining the TBR Smash Readathon on bookstagram next week so why not take the time now to figure out what to read! It’s also my blog and I can do what I want. So let’s talk books, eh?!

  • The Guncle by Steven Rowley – audiobook, currently reading
  • A Gathering of Ravens (Grimnir, #1) by Scott Oden – physical book, currently reading
  • The Broken Lands (Arcana, #1) by Kate Milford – ebook, currently reading
  • Lightbringer (Empirium, #3) by Claire Legrand – physical book
  • The Iron Queen (The Iron Fey, #3) by Julie Kagawa – physical book

  • Covet (Crave, #3) by Tracy Wolff – physical book
  • Blessed Monsters (Something Dark and Holy, #3) by Emily A. Duncan – physical book

What do you plan on reading in July? Do you have a lot of sequels or series that you haven’t caught up on yet? Have you read any of the books on my TBR? If so, what did you think of it?

Currently Reading

  • The Guncle by Steven Rowley – audiobook
  • The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow –  ebook
  • A Gathering of Ravens (Grimnir, #1) by Scott Oden – physical book

I haven’t made much progress into Ravens or The Guncle yet but I hope to really dive into them both this weekend. I’m really liking what I’ve read so far though!

I started January last fall but I just couldn’t make myself get into it. However, I decided to pick it back up again a few days ago and am having a much better experience with it this second time around. It’s almost making me want to try The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue… Almost.

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1) by Kristin Cashore – ebook
  • Harvest of Sighs (Thornchapel, #3) by Sierra Simone – ebook
  • Legendborn (Legendborn, #1) by Tracy Deonn – audiobook

I guess I’ll admit to having the controversial opinion that Legendborn was just alright to me. It didn’t amaze me like it has so many others. I have yet to decide if that was the fault of the audio narrator (who I really didn’t enjoy) or my own issues with the main character. However, I am going to continue with the series and will actually read a physical copy next time.

I also felt like Harvest was a little less exciting for me than the previous two books in the series, but still enjoyable. It was definitely a bumpy ride for the friend group and I hope the next book brings them a little more happy times than this one did.

Graceling  was a surprise for me. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, as older fantasy novels are not always that good. But this one was really enjoyable even if the ending felt a little rushed. I’ll definitely be continuing with the rest of the series.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Covet (Crave, #3) by Tracy Wolff – physical book
  • Libertie by Kaitlyn Greenidge – audiobook
  • The Serpent’s Curse (The Last Magician, #3) by Lisa Maxwell – physical book

2021 Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag

Folks, it’s true. I’m back! It’s been a long 18 months since you’ve heard from me, but my job got extremely busy and complicated last year and has just now decided to finally slow back down and let me get back to the wonderful world of blogging. Did you miss me? You know I missed you! And hey, what better way to get reintroduce myself to you than a mid-year catch up?

Biggest Disappointment

I was super excited for this book when it was first announced. However, I found it to be incredibly slow and the mystery didn’t quite capture my interest like I thought it would. I was just expecting a little bit more from this one.

Biggest Surprise

46261182._SY475_

This is a series that I came across on Kindle Unlimited and I had no idea what to expect. But man, oh man, did this series have me hooked from the very first page. It’s not amazing, nor will the writing win any prizes, but it is soooo stinking fun. It’s my guilty pleasure series of 2021… and no, I do not feel one ounce of guilt for loving it. Definitely recommend it if you want some naughty fun, but fair warning that a large portion of it does deal with some very adult situations around extreme bullying.

Favorite New Author (Debut/New To You)

Whattttttt?! Larkin’s choice is a rom-com writer?! Yes, it’s true! I started listening to Jenny Colgan’s books on audio earlier this year and really fell in love. They’re cozy and cute and the small Scottish village setting really becomes its own character. Her books are like eating your favorite comfort food. I can’t get enough!

Selwyn Kane. Bad boy and resident Merlin… Be still my beating heart.

Newest Favorite Character

Sophie and Howl. I couldn’t really choose just one of them because their hilarious back and forth sassy comments made this book for me. I caught myself laughing aloud whenever they got into one of their arguments. And controversial opinion time: The book is wayyyy better than Miyazaki’s film adaptation. Like not even close.

Book That Made You Cry

52013133

Yes, I bawled my eyes out at this finale. No shame.

Book That Made You Happy

I was provided an ARC of this book from the publisher and enjoyed it so much. It had the cutest little romance that made me smile the entire time I read it.

It’s not a movie, but the Shadow and Bone series on Netflix was absolutely amazing. It completely blew my expectations out of the water! I just really need season two to come out immediately, please!
