The Three W’s are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

  • Jackaby (Jackaby, #1) by William Ritter – physical book
  • Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View by Ben Acker – physical book
  • The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy – audiobook

I’m not really sure it’s still counts as currently reading since I haven’t picked up Star Wars in a couple of weeks, but eh, whatevs. I do plan on slowly making my way through it. Maybe I should read one short story after finishing two chapters in my main read? Now there’s an idea…

I let my blogging bestie Britt from Geronimo Reads pick my next read after finishing Honor Among Thieves, from among the TBR books that I’ve owned the longest. I had a feeling that she’d pick Jackaby and I was right! I’m only a few chapters into it so far, but I’m enjoying the writing style. I can tell this will be a quick and entertaining read.

Seriously, I plan to finish The Disappearances by Friday… EVEN IF IT KILLS ME!

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Wandering Star (Zodiac, #2) by Romina Russell – physical book, 5/5 stars
  • Honor Among Thieves (The Honors, #1) by Rachel Caine & Ann Aguirre – physical ARC, 4/5 stars

I finished Wandering Star and am now dying to pick up the next book in the series. However, I’m going to stay strong and try not gobble up the rest of the series quickly, but try and savor it. My goal is to hold off a couple of weeks at least before moving on to Black Moon. We’ll see how that turns out though.

I also finished Honor Among Thieves, thanks to Lilly from Lair of Books for sending me her copy of the ARC because she knew that I’d love it… and she was right!!! This book was so awesome and I loved it. The characters are all really interesting, especially Nadim. He’s basically an alien version of Abel from Defy the Stars (except with more emotion and less unintentional humor) and I’m so here for it.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • The Shadow Hour (The Girl at Midnight, #2) by Melissa Grey
  • Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3) by Marissa Meyer
  • Fuse (Pure, #2) by Julianna Baggott

Seriously, my goal this year is to try and complete/catch up on all of the series that I’ve already started. It’s going to happen! So plan on lots of series popping up on my TBR for a while.

  • Wandering Star (Zodiac, #2) by Romina Russell – physical book
  • Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View by Ben Acker – physical book
  • The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy – audiobook

I have 2 hours left to listen to on The Disappearances. My goal is to try and finish it today but we’ll see how that goes.

I haven’t made any progress on From a Certain Point of View as I ended up going out of town this past weekend. However, I have no plans this coming weekend and hope to get through more of it then. I just wish I felt more invested in these stories but I think my connection is with our beloved characters and less than 15 pages isn’t enough time for me to really connect with all of these new ones. I’m thinking that short stories just aren’t really my thing.

Oh man, I’m so glad I decided to jump back into the world of Zodiac with Wandering Star. There have been so many twists and turns in this second book that I’m just blow away. The world-building continues to be even more spectacular as well. I really wish more people would pick up this series and give it a try. It’s one hell of a ride!

  • The Belles (The Belles, #1) by Dhonielle Clayton – physical book, REVIEW

I really enjoyed this one! I was worried that all of the hype was going to build it up to much, but luckily the hype was all true! The story is incredibly engrossing and the world-building is just beautiful. However, I think the characters were a little too one dimensional but I think there’s room for growth as the series progresses.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Honor Among Thieves (The Honors, #1) by Rachel Caine & Ann Aguirre – physical ARC
  • Gathering Darkness (Falling Kingdoms, #3) by Morgan Rhodes – physical book
  • The Shadow Hour (The Girl at Midnight, #2) by Melissa Grey – physical book

Other than picking up Honor Among Thieves, I still want to stick with my plan to catch up on series that I’ve already started. With the final book in the Falling Kingdoms series having just been released, I can finally check another series off as soon I catch up (YAYYYYYY!). The Girl at Midnight trilogy is also fully released so make that two series that I can complete really soon. I’ll feel so accomplished when that happens, hahaha!

What are you currently reading?

  • The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murpy – audiobook
  • The Belles (The Belles, #1) by Dhonielle Clayton – physical book
  • Star Wars: From A Certain Point of View by Ben Acker – physical book

I’m finally on the home stretch of The Disappearances. Things are FINALLY starting to get interesting and so I’m ready to finish this one up and find out what the hell is actually going on.

I’m almost halfway through The Belles and I’m really enjoying it so far. In the beginning, I was worried it was going to be nothing but petty drama between a bunch of girls. However, things have really started to heat up and there’s so much more going on then that and I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Also, all of the mentions of food in this book makes me super hungry… You’ve been warned!

I haven’t really picked up From A Certain Point of View since last week but since it’s expected to storm nonstop through this weekend, I plan to try and finish it up soon!

  • I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo – physical book, 3.5/5 stars, REVIEW

This was a cute contemporary read with a fun premise. However, I do think that the MC got a little carried away with her plan and I was uncomfortable by a couple of situations that she cooked up. But this book did turn me onto Korean dramas, so I count it as a win! 😉

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Wandering Star (Zodiac, #2) by Romina Russell
  • The Shadow Hour (The Girl at Midnight, #2) by Melissa Grey
  • Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3) by Marissa Meyer

As you can see, I really want to make some progress on a few series that I’m in the middle of. I’ve been doing a really good job lately of finishing up or continuing series and that was one of my reading goals for this year. I’d like to pat myself on the back for keeping up the good work, haha!

  • Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View by Ben Acker – physical book

Still working my way through The Disappearances and From a Certain Point of View. I actually made some progress today with my audiobook, so I’m hoping that I’ve finally turned a point in this story where I actually WANT to listen to it. I also decided to pick up another book to break up all of the short stories in From a Certain Point of View. I’m enjoying I Believe in a Thing Called Love so far. It’s cute, if a tad bit silly. It did turn me onto finally trying out a k-drama, so I guess there’s that! 🙂

Rebel Spring (Falling Kingdoms, #2) by Morgan Rhodes – physical book, 5/5 stars

Ummm, can we talk about how much better this book was than the first book? I mean, I was soooo invested in this story! I even enjoyed reading from all of the different characters POVS. Also, why am I really starting to ship Magnus and Cleo? Oh, that’s right, it’s because I’m a sucker for the enemies-to-lovers trope. Yeah, I’m totally shipping those two.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • The Belles (The Belles, #1) by Dhonielle Clayton
  • The Queen of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #1) by Erika Johansen

Next I’ll be buddy reading these two with Britt. I’ve had The Queen of the Tearling on my TBR for far too long and I can’t believe that I’m just now getting to it. I have a feeling that it’s going to be a book that I really enjoy! Also, I don’t even have to explain how excited I am to start The Belles! I’ve only been hearing good things about this book and I’m ready to dive in!

What are you currently reading?

  • The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy – audiobook
  • Rebel Spring (Falling Kingdoms, #2) by Morgan Rhodes – physical book

The Disappearances is still dragging a bit for me. I like the little bit of mystery in the plot but not much is really happening. This might’ve been a story I should’ve picked up a physical copy instead, but hopefully it’ll pick up the more I get into it.

Rebel Spring is really good. I’m enjoying this second book so much more than the first. It’s fast-paced and so many different plot lines are all happening at once. I also am loving the political intrigue, as per usual.

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Iron Gold (Red Rising, #4) by Pierce Brown –  physical book, 5/5 stars
  • The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1) by Holly Black – physical book, 4/5 stars

I’m sure you’re not surprised by the fact that Iron Gold deserves all of the stars in the world. This book is AMAZING. I will never get tired of this world. EVER. Seriously, if you’ve been putting this series off, pick it up now! You won’t regret it.

The Cruel Prince was also a really enjoyable read. I shouldn’t have expected anything less than a perfect atmospheric fae novel from Black. While I did guess a couple of the big plot twists, I still had a great time while reading this one. I’m really interested in seeing where this series goes next.

Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View by Ben Acker

I’m finally going to pick this sucker up. I’ve been craving some more Star Wars recently thanks to the trailer for Solo and this one seems like the perfect way to jump back into this world. This one also has some of my favorite authors in it, so I’m really excited about it!

My February TBR!

Someone explain to me how it can already be February? Because I just don’t understand how it was just December yesterday and now February is tomorrow. HOW?!?!?!

Also, if some of these look similar to my January TBR, then it’s obviously because I didn’t get to them. I didn’t do the best job sticking with my original TBR, alright? I’m only human… Jeeze.

  • The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1) by Holly Black
  • I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo
  • Rebel Spring (Falling Kingdoms, #2) by Morgan Rhodes
  • The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue (Guide, #1) by Mackenzi Lee
  • Wandering Star (Zodiac, #2) by Romina Russell
  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  • Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3) by Marissa Meyer
  • The Belles (The Belles, #1) by Dhonielle Clayton – Hype or Like Friday BOTM
  • Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View by Ben Acker
  • The Shadow Hour (The Girl at Midnight, #1) by Melissa Grey
  • The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher
  • Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass, #6) by Sarah J. Maas

Let’s be honest here, I’m also a mood reader so we’ll see if I actually get to all of these or decide to switch it up like I did in January. I’m just really cool that way. 😉

What do plan on reading in February? Have you read any of the books on my TBR? If so, what did you think of them?

What are you currently reading?

  • The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy – audiobook
  • Iron Gold (Red Rising, #4) by Pierce Brown – physical book

I only listened to a little bit of The Disappearances so I’m not really far enough along yet to have an opinion. I guess I do like that it’s set in WWII, which I wasn’t aware of before I bought it. You know how I like my historical fiction!

I’m about 100 pages into Iron Gold and I’m already obsessed. It feels soooo good to be back in this world! I’m also really liking all of the different POVs. I think my favorite has to be Lysander, which I wasn’t expecting. I love that he’s a booknerd and so smart! Also, Victra is still awesome and my fictional twin. 🙂

What did you recently finish reading?

  • The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis – audiobook, 3/5 stars
  • Into the Bright Unknown (The Gold Seer Trilogy, #3) – physical book, 4/5 stars
  • The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy, #1) by S.A. Chakraborty – physical book, 5/5 stars
  • The School for Good and Evil (The School for Good and Evil, #1) by Soman Chainani – physical book, 3/5 stars
  • These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly – physical book, 5/5 stars

I finished all of these books during my personal #24in48 read-a-thon this past weekend. I had a really good reading weekend overall and enjoyed all of these books for the most part. However, The City of Brass and These Shallow Graves are the two main stars. I would actually officially list The City of Brass as one of my all-time favorite books now. It was THAT amazing.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Since I can’t decide what to read next because my FairyLoot with The Cruel Prince hasn’t even shipped yet… Here’s the books left on my January TBR. Hopefully I’ll be able to figure out what to read next before I finish Iron Gold. I obviously won’t be finishing all of these before February, haha!

  • From a Certain Point of View by Ben Acker
  • Wandering Star (Zodiac, #2) by Romina Russell

My Personal #24in48 Readathon and Giveaways!

Hi y’all! So as I’m sure most of you know, next weekend (January 26-28) is the official #24in48 Read-a-thon. Now I participated in the previous one last July and really enjoyed it. I think I actually completed 4 books that weekend. Yeah, for real! But unfortunately, this month’s read-a-thon falls on my birthday weekend and I will be out of town and unable to participate. However, not only is it supposed to rain this weekend here, I will also have the entire house to myself for a couple of days. Which means…

I have decided to hold my own personal #24in48 read-a-thon!

Starting tonight at 6pm CST, I will be live tweeting my read-a-thon on my Twitter account @larkinchurchill. If you follow my tweets all weekend, there will be two opportunities to win some giveaways! I will be doing a giveaway on Saturday and again on Sunday. I haven’t decided if both will be a 2018 preorder of your choice, or one will be a current release and the other a preorder. Might do a Twitter poll to determine what everyone would prefer…

I finally finished my audiobook yesterday and so now I’m currently in the middle of three physical books. My goal this weekend is to finish all three, and then hopefully finish a 4th and start a 5th. I’m behind on my January TBR and really want to catch up some during this read-a-thon!

Current Reads

My January 2018 TBR

Well as 2017 comes to a close (in just a few days, in fact!), I’m already looking forward to what 2018 has in store for me.. Have I figured out what my reading goals for this coming year? Absolutely not, because I’m a procrastinator. However, I do think I have finalized my TBR for January. Hey, it’s better than nothing!
