What are you currently reading?

  • Kingdom of the Blazing Phoenix (Rise of the Empress, #2) by Julie C. Dao – audibook
  • The English Wife by Lauren Willig – physical book
  • Jade City (The Green Bone Saga, #1) by Fonda Lee – physical book

I finally decided to just go ahead and finish the Rise of the Empress duology, when I was making a few exchanges on my Audible account. I wasn’t a big fan of the first novel but with this sequel following Jade, I thought I’d give it a chance. It’s interesting so far but I find Jade to be kind of a dud. She’s too timid and lacks much of a personality, but maybe that’ll change as I get further into the story.

I’m not too far into The English Wife yet, but I’m already pulled into the intrigue of the story. I love how the murder mystery is being explored. I’m a sucker for historical fiction and the Gilded Age setting is wonderful. I can’t wait to see how the story plays out.

I haven’t gotten but a few pages into Jade City so I haven’t formed any sort of opinion on it yet. I’m just excited to finally be reading it!

What did you recently finish reading?

  • And I Darken (The Conqueror’s Saga, #1) by Kiersten White – physical book, RTC
  • Honor Bound (The Honors, #2) by Rachel Caine and Ann Aguirre – physical book, RTC
  • Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid – audiobook, REVIEW
  • The Beautiful Strangers by Camille Di Maio – audiobook

I got through quite a few books this past week and that’s never a bad thing. I really enjoyed all of these for the most part. I was a little disappointed with The Beautiful Strangers and it only ended up being an average forgettable read for me. The rest were all great, especially Honor Bound and Daisy Jones & The Six.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Rabbit & Robot by Andrew Smith – physical ARC
  • Navigating the Stars (Sentinels of the Galaxy, #1) by Maria V. Snyder – audiobook
  • Tithe (Modern Faerie Tales, #1) by Holly Black – physical book

What are you currently reading?

  • Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye – physical book
  • Sadie by Courtney Summers – audiobook

I finally finished Tower of Dawn last night and so I decided to pick up Jane Steele next. I mean, it’s October, right? Time to pick up some horror and thrillers, which I hardly ever do at any other time of year. I just like my science fiction and fantasy! But I’m really looking forward to this one, as I’ve heard some mixed things on it and can’t wait to see what I think about it.

I have also just started listening to Sadie, as recommended by my little love bug, Britt. She’s been obsessing over it lately and I’ve heard amazing things about it from other people as well. I love that the audiobook has a full cast. That always helps elevate an audiobook from being good to great for me personally.

What did you recently finish reading?

31450852

  • Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass, #6) by Sarah J. Maas – physical book

I will admit that I put off picking up this book because I just lost all interest in Chaol as a character. However, I was very surprised by just how much I enjoyed this book. It helped widen the scale of this world and had some of the best character development in the entire series so far. Also, can we just stand in moment in awe over some of the revelations that came to light?! Holy smokes, Batman! As if I wasn’t already super hyped enough for Kingdom of Ash, I may spontaneously combust waiting for its release now!!

What do you think you’ll read next?

Any one of these pretty babies is on my radar to pick up next. I’ll probably go with Crystal Storm first though, because I just cannot wait to see what happens next in this series. Also, that cover for Devils Unto Dust is just so freaking badass.

The Three W’s are:

What are you currently reading?

  • Lion Heart (Scarlet, #3) by A.C. Gaughen – audiobook
  • Titans by Leila Meacham – physical book
  • The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand – audiobook

I’ve finally passed the halfway mark on Titans and am still really enjoying this story. I didn’t have any time to really read this past weekend as I was attending two different concerts (Maren Morris/Niall Horan and Whitesnake/Foreigner). I do plan to finish this enormous book by this weekend though, as I will be doing nothing but relaxing by the pool and reading.

I haven’t listened to any of Lion Heart since starting on The Afterlife of Holly Chase. I am enjoying this story more now, but am still waiting for something big to happen. The plot has kind of hit a stagnant point for me. I’ve got my fingers crossed that Stephanie is actually dead too. That would be a great twist!

What did you recently finish reading?

Nada…. Sorry, y’all!

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Lair of Dreams (The Diviners, #2) by Libba Bray – physical book
  • Renegades (Renegades, #1) by Marissa Meyer – physical book
  • Frozen Tides (Falling Kingdoms, #4) by Morgan Rhodes – physical book

I’ve decided to pick up Frozen Tides next before diving into Renegades, as I need a little break from big books for a bit. Haha! I’m super excited to pick it up though because I’m in love with this series and the last book ended on such a big cliffhanger!

The Three W’s are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

  • Trail of Lightning (The Sixth World, #1) by Rebecca Roanhorse – physical ARC
  • Lion Heart (Scarlet, #3) by A.C. Gaughen – audiobook

I’m really enjoying Trail of Lightning, especially how the entire story revolves around Native American culture and myths. I do wish I had a little translator to help with some of the words though that are scattered throughout. Maggie is also a total badass. I want to be her best friend!

Lion Heart is definitely a fun read so far. The whole story has definitely taken an even darker turn than the previous two books. I also love how we’re getting to see more of the country, rather than just focusing on Nottingham.

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Lady Thief (Scarlet, #2) by A.C. Gaughen – audiobook
  • Defy the Worlds (Constellation, #2) by Claudia Gray – physical book

Lady Thief was great. I loved getting to experience more of Gisbourne, as he was probably one of my favorite villains ever. So many different layers to him that I just loved every time he was in a scene.

Also, I’m pretty sure that Claudia Gray cannot write a bad book. I absolutely love everything she writes and Defy the Worlds was no exception. She just gets science fiction and I love that. Also, this series is so damn good! I cannot wait to see how it all will end in the final book!

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Titans by Leila Meacham – physical book
  • Lair of Dreams (The Diviners, #2) by Libba Bray – physical book

I’ll be starting on the Tome Topple Readathon on Friday and cannot wait to dive into these massive books. I’m on a historical fiction trip right now and am ready to go back in time! 😉

The Three W’s are:

  • What are you currently reading?

What are you currently reading?

  • Lady Thief (Scarlet, #2) by A.C. Gaughen – audiobook
  • Defy the Worlds (Constellation, #2) by Claudia Gray – physical book

No surprise here, but I am LOVING Defy the Worlds right now. The stakes are even higher in this book, with biological warfare going on and my two loves separated by an entire galaxy. Things are really ramping up and I cannot wait to see what’s going to happen next!

I’m not very far into Lady Thief, so I don’t have much of an opinion on it at the moment. However, I think the plot in this second book is more intriguing than the first one. I will say this, you definitely can’t say this series is all rainbows and sunshine. Gaughen isn’t afraid to make things really dark and I can appreciate that for sure, especially in retellings.

What did you recently finish reading?

  • The Diviners (The Diviners, #1) by Libba Bray – audiobook, 5/5 stars
  • A Reaper at the Gates (An Ember in the Ashes, #3) by Sabaa Tahir – physical book, 5/5 stars

I cannot begin to explain how much I am loving the entire An Ember in the Ashes series. It just has everything that I love in a story – great multifaceted characters, engaging plot, epic political intrigue, and a great slow burn romance. I didn’t know that Tahir could take this story and expand it even more, but she did in A Reaper at the Gates and completely knocked it outta the park. I don’t know how I’m going to be able to wait another year for the finale!

The Diviners was a reread for me, as I needed a definite brush up before moving on with the series, since I haven’t read it since it was first released. And I can sincerely say that I enjoyed it just as much this time around. The story is so engaging and I love all of the paranormal aspects to it. I also definitely recommend the audiobook version, as the narrator does such a fantastic job!

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Trail of Lightning (The Sixth World, #1) by Rebecca Roanhorse – physical ARC
  • Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali – physical book

I’m super excited to get to both of these books! They’re both diverse and own voices novels but very different in terms of plot. Trail of Lightning is being likened to an indigenous Mad Max: Fury Road story about a Native American girl fighting monsters in post-apocalyptic New Mexico. Ummmm, YES PLEASE! While Saints and Misfits is a heavy contemporary novel following a Muslim girl who I believe must deal with the issue of sexual assault/harassment from someone within her mosque. Like I said, completely different style novels but both sound totally amazing and I cannot wait to dive into them!

What are you currently reading?

  • A Reaper at the Gates (An Ember in the Ashes, #3) by Sabaa Tahir – physical book
  • The Diviners (The Diviners, #1) by Libba Bray – audiobook

I didn’t have time to read as much Reaper as I wanted to last night. However, even though I’m only 50 pages into it, I’m already hooked. I think the biggest problem for me right now is that I hardly remember a thing about what happened in the previous book. Bits and pieces are coming back to me but I probably should look up a complete synopsis before I pick it up again tonight. This is why I need authors to write their complete series first and then release them every 6 months, so I don’t have to continue to struggle with a terrible memory! Apparently Michael J. Sullivan does that and basically he’s my hero for it.

This is actually a reread of The Diviners. I first read it back when it was first released and so now that there are multiple sequels out, I thought it was a good time for a reread and than move forward with the series. I’m sooooooo glad I decided to do the audiobook this time around, because y’all, it’s AMAZING. The narrator is so darn good with giving a distinctive voice for each character and just creating the perfect atmosphere. I highly recommend the audiobook version if you’re interested in reading this series! Also, I remember being obsessed when I first read this and this reread has brought all of those feelings back. I love, love, love this story!

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Ahsoka (A Star Wars Novel) by E.K. Johnston – physical book, 4/5 stars
  • Ace of Shades (The Shadow Game, #1) by Amanda Foody – physical book, 5/5 stars, review to come

I’m so glad I decided to get back to reading my Star Wars novels regularly again and started with Ahsoka. She’s my favorite character and I thought that Johnston did a great job bringing her to life in this book. I really enjoyed finding out what happened to her after The Clone Wars.

I don’t think I’ll ever stop gushing over Ace of Shades. This book was just so damn good, y’all! It was dark, brutal, and deliciously sinful. It was like if you set Six of Crows in Las Vegas and made them lose all inhibitions. I loved how twisted the story was and cannot wait to find out what will happen next. I need the sequel immediately!!!

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Trail of Lightning (The Sixth World, #1) by Rebecca Roanhorse – physical book
  • Defy the Worlds (Constellation, #2) by Claudia Gray – physical book

I’m really excited to dive into Trail of Lightning. The synopsis sounds like so much fun and I haven’t read any urban fantasy in a long time. Plus, it’s an own voices novel following a Native American girl who hunts monsters. I mean, that’s just awesome!

Also, I’ve been waiting for Defy the Worlds ever since I read the first book and I can’t put off picking it up any longer. Abel, my sweetheart, I’m coming for you!

  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

  • Ace of Shades (The Shadow Game, #1) by Amanda Foody – physical book
  • Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman – audiobook

I just started reading Ace of Shades yesterday and am really enjoying it so far. The world is so interesting and I like that there’s a bit of mystery to the plot. I really enjoyed Daughter of the Burning City and so I hope that this one lives up to that book… so far, so good!

I’m not very far into listening to Call Me By Your Name but so far, I have mixed feelings on it. The prose is soooo over the top that I have the hardest time remembering that it’s a story being told by a 17 year-old. It just takes me out of the actual story. I won’t lie and admit that some parts give off a bit of a stalkerish vibe and make me a tad uncomfortable – this kid is definitely obsessed. However, I do love listening to Armie Hammer’s voice. He’s doing a great job as the narrator.

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys – audiobook
  • Legendary (Caraval, #2) by Stephanie Garber – physical book
  • War Storm (Red Queen, #4) by Victoria Aveyard – physical book
  • Scarlet (Scarlet, #1) by A.C. Gaughen – audiobook

I really enjoyed Out of the Easy. It was a really interesting and engaging story that continued that awesome legacy that Sepetys has. She’s such a great author of historical fiction and I don’t think I’ll ever tire of her stories.

Legendary was sooooooo good! I actually enjoyed it even more than Caraval and I never would’ve thought that could be possible. Tella makes for a much more interesting heroine and someone that you can really root for. All of the twists and turns in this book have left me begging for the finale to see what how it all ends. Why do we have to wait until next year?!?!

War Storm was a good finale, but not quite as amazing as I was hoping for. I think the pacing was a little off and slow to really get going. However, I’m satisfied with the way Aveyard decided to end it.

Now I’m still really unsure about my feelings on Scarlet. There was literally zero descriptions in this book. I have no idea what the characters are supposed to look like and that’s just very strange to me. I did like the way Gaughen decided to retell the story of Robin Hood though and will probably continue with the series.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Ahsoka by E.K. Johnston – physical book
  • Defy the Worlds (Constellation, #2) by Claudia Gray – physical book
  • A Reaper at the Gates (An Ember in the Ashes, #3) by Sabaa Tahir – physical book

I really need to get caught back up with all of my Star Wars books, so I’ll start from the oldest one chronologically with Ahsoka. Then I need to catch up with a couple of other series. I was so excited when I saw that A Reaper at the Gates shipped early and arrived with my other preorder yesterday, Sweet Black Waves!

What are you currently reading?

  • Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys – audiobook
  • War Storm (Red Queen, #4) by Victoria Aveyard – physical book

Still working my way through Out of the Easy. It’s been crazy at work this past week which has cut into my listening time. Hopefully I can get back into it soon, as I’m really enjoying this story and I can’t wait to dive more into this mystery!

I actually haven’t started War Storm yet. I finished up Furyborn right before I went to sleep last night and so I didn’t have any time to pick it up. I’m super excited and also a little nervous to see how this series is going to end. Maven has become the new Darkling for me and I’m almost sad to find out what happens to him. Because I stand by the fact that the Darkling should’ve had redemption! #stillbitter #justiceforMaven 😉

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) by Marissa Meyer – physical book
  • Furyborn (Empirium, #1) by Claire Legrand – physical ARC

I have to say that I had a very enjoyable reading week. I finished up Winter, which was a really good ending to the Lunar Chronicles series. I do think there was some parts that could’ve been cut out of the story but other than that it was a fun read.

I also binged Furyborn in just a few days. Y’all, I went into this book thinking that it was going to be crap and unoriginal. I WAS WRONG! This book was exciting from start to finish and I am so obsessed now. The hype is real with this one and I don’t think I’m going to survive a full year until the second book is released. I will definitely be purchasing the final copy of this one! Also, please note that I would consider this to be more NA than YA. So if you don’t prefer cursing and sexual content in your books, just know that both are prevalent in this one.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • A Court of Frost and Starlight (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3.1) by Sarah J. Maas – physical book
  • Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali – physical book

It’s probably time to mix in some contemporary with my reading. While it’s not a genre that I normally gravitate towards, I’ve heard really good things about this book! I’m also kind of obsessed with this cover. The girl just looks so chic!

ACOFAS is going to be my first novella… EVER! I actually purchased Sightwitch when it was released as well but I haven’t picked it up yet. However, it’s on my TBR for this month as well, so I guess you could say that I’m about to crash into the world of novellas. Hopefully both of these live up to my expectations!

What are you currently reading?

  • Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys – audiobook
  • Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) by Marissa Meyer – physical book

I haven’t been listening to Out of the Easy very much this past week, as we’ve been really busy at work which takes away from my focus on the story. (I’ve been listening to all of the songs for this year’s Eurovision instead, but that’s not really relevant.) However, I hope that things calm down for the next couple of days so I can get back into the story.

I’ve finally passed the halfway point in Winter. I have to say that the first half of the book was a little slow for me but I’ve finally reached a point where I don’t want to put it down. Things have really picked up and I have to know what’s going to happen next! Also, Winter has personally grown on me. She kind of reminds me of Luna Lovegood, with just a very dreamy quality about her.

What did you recently finish reading?

Nothing…. Sorry, folks!

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Furyborn (Empirium, #1) by Claire Legrand – physical ARC
  • Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali – physical book

My hope is to finish Furyborn before its release date. That would be nice, right? I’ve got my fingers crossed that I can do it. I also feel like I need a little contemporary to mix things up for me right now. I’ve heard really good things about Saints and Misfits and so I’m really excited that I was able to snag a copy from Book Outlet back in the fall for cheap. Love a great bargain! I can’t wait to dive into this story!

The Three W’s are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

  • Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys – audiobook
  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid – physical book

I’m obviously going through a little bit of a historical fiction kick at the moment. It’s one of my favorite genres but I haven’t read it as much lately so I’m trying to correct that. I just started listening to Out of the Easy and am already hooked. The story is so intriguing (who doesn’t get lured in by the mythos of New Orleans?!) and I’m loving the narrator as well. Sooooooo much better than The Disappearances… HA!

I’m about 60 pages into The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and I’m almost 90% sure I know what the “big reveal” is going to be at the end. Color me extremely shocked if I’m wrong. However, even with though I think it’s going to be fairly cliché, I’m still enjoying the overall story. Are we sure that Elizabeth Taylor doesn’t have a tell-all biography swirling around out there? Because if she does, I need it!

What did you recently finish reading?

  • Black Moon (Zodiac, #3) by Romina Russell – physical book, 5/5 Stars
  • The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy – audiobook, 1/5 Stars
  • The Big Inch (Misfits and Millionaires, #1) by Kimberly Fish – physical book, 5/5 Stars
  • Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3) by Marissa Meyer – physical book, 4/5 Stars, REVIEW

I had a fairly good reading week, minus the abysmal disappointment that was The Disappearances. Seriously, I’ve never been so bored by a novel as I was with that one. Between the narrator being pretty terrible and mixed with the extremely slow plot, this one did not work for me at all. I mean it took me 3 months to finish it!!!! Yep, awful.

Luckily, I continue to be blown away by the Zodiac series. Black Moon had so many twists and turns that were just so damn good. And Russell’s world-building is top notch, as she continues to introduce to new planets and their history. As an Aquarius, I really enjoyed that this book focused on them. This series is seriously so, so, so good and I wished more people would read it!

I also really enjoyed The Big Inch which is written by a local author and showcases a major part of history here in my hometown. I definitely recommend it if you like WWII historical fiction. And of course, I really enjoyed Cress. I still think that Scarlet is my favorite book in the series but the action was really ramped up in this one. I can’t wait to find out how it will all end in Winter!

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • Gathering Darkenss (Falling Kingdoms, #3) by Morgan Rhodes
  • Furyborn (Empirium, #1) by Claire Legrand
  • Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali

I’ll be continuing on with the Falling Kingdoms series like I’ve been saying I’ll do for the last month or so, haha. I also want to mix in some contemporary too, so I’ll be grabbing Saints and Misfits. The plot sounds really good and I’ve also heard good things about this book, which really excites me! I also plan to pick up Furyborn as I’ve had an ARC since this past fall. I really need to finish this book before its release date next month so I can decide whether or not I’ll be purchasing a final copy.
