The Disastersย by M.K. England
The Breakfast Clubย meetsย Guardians of the Galaxyย in this YA sci-fi adventure by debut author M. K. England.
Hotshot pilot Nax Hall has a history of making poor life choices. So itโs not exactly a surprise when heโs kicked out of the elite Ellis Station Academy in less than twenty-four hours.
But Naxโs one-way trip back to Earth is cut short when a terrorist group attacks the Academy. Nax and three other washouts escapeโbarelyโbut theyโre also the sole witnesses to the biggest crime in the history of space colonization. And the perfect scapegoats.
On the run and framed for atrocities they didnโt commit, Nax and his fellow failures execute a dangerous heist to spread the truth about what happened at the Academy.
They may not be โAcademy material,โ and they may not get along, but theyโre the only ones left to step up and fight.

The City of Lost Fortunesย by Bryan Camp
The fate of New Orleans rests in the hands of a wayward grifter in this novel of gods, games, and monsters.
The postโKatrina New Orleans ofย The City of Lost Fortunesย is a place haunted by its history and by the hurricaneโs destruction, a place that is hoping to survive the rebuilding of its present long enough to ensure that it has a future. Street magician Jude Dubuisson is likewise burdened by his past and by the consequences of the storm, because he has a secret: the magical ability to find lost things, a gift passed down to him by the father he has never knownโa father who just happens to be more than human.
Jude has been lying low since the storm, which caused so many things to be lost that it played havoc with his magic, and he is hiding from his own power, his divine former employer, and a debt owed to the Fortune god of New Orleans. But his six-year retirement ends abruptly when the Fortune god is murdered and Jude is drawn back into the world he tried so desperately to leave behind. A world full of magic, monsters, and miracles. A world where he must find out who is responsible for the Fortune godโs death, uncover the plot that threatens the cityโs soul, and discover what his talent for lost things has always been trying to show him: what it means to be his fatherโs son.

The Oracle Yearย by Charles Soule
Knowledge is power. So when an unassuming Manhattan bassist named Will Dando awakens from a dream one morning with 108 predictions about the future in his head, he rapidly finds himself the most powerful man in the world. Protecting his anonymity by calling himself the Oracle, he sets up a heavily guarded Web site with the help of his friend Hamza to selectively announce his revelations. In no time, global corporations are offering him millions for exclusive access, eager to profit from his prophecies.
He’s also making a lot of high-powered enemies, from the President of the United States and a nationally prominent televangelist to a warlord with a nuclear missile and an assassin grandmother. Legions of cyber spies are unleashed to hack the Siteโas it’s come to be calledโand the best manhunters money can buy are deployed not only to unmask the Oracle but to take him out of the game entirely. With only a handful of people he can trustโincluding a beautiful journalistโit’s all Will can do just to survive, elude exposure, and protect those he loves long enough to use his knowledge to save the world.
Delivering fast-paced adventure on a global scale as well as sharp-witted satire on our concepts of power and faith, Marvel writer Charles Soule’s audacious debut novel takes readers on a rollicking ride where it’s impossible to predict what will happen next.

Thank you! I’m definitely excited for Mirage too. I love that it’s a sci-fi influenced by Middle Eastern culture, which is totally awesome. I’ve been hearing amazing things about The City of Lost Fortunes too, so I really hope to snag a copy soon since it was just released today!

That’s all right, and yeah it sounds epic. I don’t think there’s another book with a concept like that out there (that I’m aware of at least).

Haha me too!! The final paragraph in the synopsis also gives me hope that this turns into a mystery/thriller but that could just be wishful thinking lol.

Yeah, I love how unique all of them are! There’s definitely some amazing books coming out this year that are getting lost in all of noise over the hyped books.

I am so happy I came across this post. I looooove finding books that aren’t super well known! I have added “When we Caught Fire” to my TBR list (THANKS!). I thought I would add a book I recently finished to the list called “To Have and to Hold” by Ketley Allison. It’s a romantic thriller that follows main characters Emme and Spence who used to be college sweethearts but have now gone their separate ways. Emme is kidnapped and when Spence finds out he does everything he can to find her and get her back. The book kept me on the edge of my seat because it is written as a POV and you are put into Emme’s terrible situation.. There are many times where I thought to myself “I have no idea what I would do….” I like it because she’s not a damsel in distress and yet you root for Spence and her to get back together from the very beginning. They are really likable characters and this is a GRIPPING book. I 100% recommend. You can read more here: https://ketleyallison.com/
Thanks again!
