WWW Wednesday – August 30th, 2017

Welcome to WWW Wednesday which is currently being hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. It’s really just a place to do little update on what all you’ve been reading lately. Anyone is welcome to join, just leave a link to your post in the comments and be sure to give the appropriate credit to Sam!

The Three W’s are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

  • Heartless by Marissa Meyer
  • Parker by Jillian Quinn
  • Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2) Leigh Bardugo

Still going through a bit of a reading slump, but I did read over 100 pages in Heartless last night and can’t wait for my lunch break to get back into it. I’ve kind of put aside Crooked Kingdom at the moment because I’m pretty sure it’s what put me into the slump in the first place. Uh oh, controversial opinion time!… It’s boring. Sorry to everyone who is just obsessed with this book but I’m not particularly enjoying it at the moment.

What did you recently finish reading?

Nothing….. yet again.

What do you think you’ll read next?

  • American Fire by Monica Hesse
  • Hunted by Meagan Spooner

Going to dive into some non-fiction with American Fire next. It’s been a while since I’ve read any and this book sounds so intriguing. I’ve been terrible about reading the books I’ve received from Book of the Month Club, so this will be my push to finally get into those. Due to my reading slump, I didn’t read either Hype or Like Friday August BOTM choices and so I’m going to finish the second one. Fingers crossed!

What are you currently reading? Have you finished any good books lately? How do you get out of reading slumps? Leave a link to your WWW Wednesday post in the comments below!

  1. I can completely understand how CK has put you into a reading slump, it is very slow paced. It’s also heavy on each characters narrative, i will say that it was a satisfying conclusion to the duology. I friggin LOVED Heartless & the reviews for it are mixed but that didn’t stop me from loving it any less as a fan of everything that comes from the world of Alice in Wonderland haha! CONFESSION: I too have been HORRIBLE with reading my BOTM books and I need to change that. It’s funny cuz I’ve been eyeing hardcore my copy of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo so that will most likely be my Adult Fiction read for September. I’m actually really curious about American Fire so I’ll wait for your thoughts lol. Hunted is one of my fave Beauty & the Beast re-tellings *eeeeeK*, Hope you enjoy your reading this week 🙂

    1. Yeah, I think it wasn’t smart to try binging Six of Crows and then it immediately afterwards. Six of Crows took me a while to get into as well, but it did pick up towards the middle. I think the really long chapters make it even harder too. I’m also not as in love with some of the characters as everyone else seems to be. So ashamed to admit that too haha!

Yess! I’m so loving Heartless right now and I put it off for so long because of all of the mixed reviews. I never should’ve listened to them! Like nothing major is happening yet and I’m still so enthralled lol. I’m already upset thinking about how bad I know the ending is going to be!

Girl, I don’t even know why I’ve only read two of my BOTMC books since I started my subscription. What is wrong with me?! But hopefully this will jumpstart me into finally picking at least one up each month. Can’t wait to see what you think of Seven Husbands!!!

Oh, perfect! I haven’t seen much about Hunted so I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed it so much!!

  2. I can definitely understand Crooked Kingdom being a bit of a struggle. It’s quite slow and personally I find it difficult with so many povs. There are some great moments but you definitely have to be in the right mood.

I loved both Heartless and Hunted. I’m a big fan of retellings and prequels etc and they are definitely among the best I’ve come across.

    1. Yeah, it’s not even that there’s so many different POVs, it’s that I don’t connect with any of them really. I think the only character that I really enjoy is Nina and she hasn’t had a big presence in this book so far. Hopefully that will change though!

Me too! Heartless is really good so far!

  3. I loooved Heartless when I read it last year. Glad to see you’re enjoying it as well. I was constantly hungry reading that book, haha. Cath’s baking gave me such a craving for baked goods!
