Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag

I wasn’t tagged by anyone in particular to do this tag (at least I don’t think I was, oops?!), but this looked like a great way to look back over my past 6 months of reading. I cannot believe 2017 is already almost over. Someone please make time slow down, okay?

1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2017?

HA! As if I could only choose one…

I really enjoyed all three of these. I couldn’t put down Caraval, The Serpent King was an amazing story about grief and frienship, and The Lost Letter was just beautiful.

2. Best Sequel

26895161

While the first book was enjoyable but nothing amazing, this sequel was so much fun. The characters are all amazing and their interactions were hilarious. This crew really started to feel like family in this novel and even if there hadn’t been very much action, they would’ve been reason enough to read it. But this book is FULL of action and it was a perfect balance.

3. New Releases I Haven’t Read But Want To

Should I be ashamed to admit that I own all of these but two? YIKES!

4. Most Anticipated Release for Autumn/Winter

Oh gosh, where do I even begin with this list?! There are just so many good books coming out in the next six months and I want them all!

Okay, so maybe I’m excited for every single book getting released in the second half of this year. I actually had more on this list but decided I had to tone it down a bit. I’ve got a problem, alright?

5. Biggest Disappointment of the Year So Far

28110143

I was really excited to get to this book, as it sounded so whimsical and fun. However, it just fell a little flat. It was definitely whimsical and I loved the world-building, but the actual story fell a little flat. I was a little bored through the middle and I found the ending to be really rushed and not explained very well.

6. Biggest Surprise of the Year

21414439

I was not excited to pick this book up, as I had heard such mixed reviews about it when it first came out. But oh my gosh, this book was so good! I struggled to put it down and enjoyed every second of it. I loved the characters, the storyline, all of it. The sequel wasn’t as good to me, but I’m really looking forward to seeing where this story goes next.

7. Newest Fictional Crush

Aeduan and Merik from Truthwitch. They’re both completely opposite personality-wise but I love that. One’s the strong silent type and the other is sarcastic and energetic. Can’t I just have them both?

8. New Favorite Author

I think I’m going to have to go with Claudia Gray. I absolutely loved her Firebird Trilogy and then realized that I have a bunch of other books by her sitting on my TBR shelf too. She tends to stick with science fiction which is one of my favorite genres, so I’m totally okay with that. She’s also one of the authors that Del Rey/Disney have focused on for writing their Star Wars novels. HELL YES. I just purchased her newest release, Defy the Stars, and am so pumped to get to it.

 9. New Favorite Character

Legend from Caraval…. I know he’s barely in the book but my god, I’m obsessed. I need to know more about him. I need to know EVERYTHING about him! He’s so mysterious and devious and cunning and I’m almost definitely in love with his twisted soul. My fascination with him is real and I really hope that he has a major part in the next book.

10. Book That Made Me Cry

23766634

I seriously ugly cried at that one part (you know which one!). My mom happened to walk in when it happened and freaked out asking me what was wrong because I was such a mess. Hahaha it was hilarious!

10. Books That Made Me Happy

All four of these books are so much fun! I highly recommend them to everyone if you’re just looking for something light and exciting that will make you smile.

11. Favorite Book to Movie Adaptation

I can’t really remember if I’ve watched a book to movie adaptation this year, but I guess I can go with Beauty and the Beast since it’s technically a fairy tale. That movie was awesome, y’all. And who knew that Dan Stevens had such a great voice?!

12. Favorite Post You’ve Done This Year

13. Most Beautiful Book So Far

28960100

How could it be anything else other than this gorgeous cover? I mean, it’s just so pretty!

14. What Book Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year?

29430012

Don’t worry though, I’ve got this on my TBR already for next month. It will happen!!!

What are some of your favorite books so far this year? Biggest surprise? Biggest disappointment? If you’d like to to do this tag, then please do it!

  1. I love your list! I’m so glad Caraval made it in your best list because I freaking loved that book and I’m pretty much dying to read the next book. I loved Daughter of the pirate king and Gentleman’s guide to Vice and Virtue! I also enjoyed Shadowrun but it’s not one of my favorite. I’m so excited for Enchantment of Ravens and Warcross! Truthwitch is a pretty amazing book! I haven’t read the sequel yet but I looking forward to read it soon. ACOWAR is pretty emotional and totally epic. I can’t wait to know what Sarah has in store for us next. 🙂
