TOPIC OF THE WEEK: I Don’t Believe in a Thing Called Love... Let’s put a spin on a common question! What are some fictional romantic couples that you did NOT enjoy?
1. Katniss and Peeta – Hunger Games Trilogy
Basically, my exact thoughts on this one. Listen, I know EVERYONE loves Peeta and thinks he’s just the absolute best. However, while I liked him as a character, I didn’t like him and Katniss together. At all. Peeta is basically Katniss’ enabler and I’m just not okay with that. I am and always will be Team Gale. I just like some fight in my men, sue me.
2. Elide and Lorcan – Throne of Glass Series
Listen, Maas, it’s alright if not ever single character ends up in a relationship, I promise. No one will start burning your books if you let some characters just end up happy and independent. Elide and Lorcan could have been the perfect characters to just create a deep bond on friendship and let it end there. But noooooo… you just had to go there. Commence eye rolling.
3. Joseph and Mirabella – Three Dark Crowns Trilogy
Seriously, who the hell thought this would be a good idea? It makes zero sense and was probably one of the stupidest plot points that I read in all of 2016. I don’t know why Blake thought it was necessary, even if she really wanted a love triangle. It was both pointless and also just plan weird. Strangest damn thing really. I’m hoping this all goes away in the sequel. Fingers crossed, right?
4. Adelina and Magiano – The Young Elites Trilogy
Before y’all go and bite my head off, hear me out! Magiano was too good for Adelina! He cared way more than she did and actually tried to help her, while all she cared about was revenge and being a bitch. Magiano deserves to be happy with someone else. Also, I ship her and Enzo so hard and I’m still not over it.
5. Alina and Mal – Grisha Trilogy
If you read my reviews of the Grisha trilogy, you’ll know that I absolutely HATE HATE HATE HATE Mal. Listen, maybe my intense hatred for his character is silly and blown out of proportion, but I cannot help it. Something about him just annoys me to no end. And his relationship with Alina?! Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…… Obviously I’m still bitter. I really thought Bardugo would kill him for me… Dammit.

So I’ve only read the first book in The Hunger Games, but I was NOT a fan of Katniss and Peeta either. I loved Gale and all the hate is one of the reasons why I haven’t finished the series haha. I also did not like Joseph and Mirabella. That was super unnecessary.

Ahhhhhh, I found another person who agrees with me!!! I swear there are far too few of us. I finished the series and really didn’t like how it ended. So disappointing!… And I know, right?! It was written so random and weird too how it happened. I’m hoping that those two really don’t end up together in the next book.

OMG, I totally agree with you on MAL! That guy is totally dull! I hated Alina for choosing that guy. I wouldn’t have disappointed if she had chosen Nik instead of Mal.

Amen!!! That’s who I wanted her to end up with the entire time. Like, why did it have to be Mal? 😭

Uhh I completely understand you with Mal! I have seriously hated him since book one and I obviously didn’t like the fact that he ended up with Alina. I hoped that she would choose Nikolai – they would have been such an amazing couple and I would have LOVED to see them rule together!
I never really cared about Katniss and Peeta, I liked them as characters but never cared much for their relationship.

Yesssss, I’m so glad to see that more people agree with me on these than I thought. I like to always imagine that Nik and Alina actually ended up together and Mal is dead. 😂
