What are you currently reading?
Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1) by Laini Taylor
Yes, I know… I had hoped to finish this book this past weekend but I just had a whole lot of stuff going on which cut into my reading time. However, I’ve got my fingers crossed to finish it by this weekend! Don’t worry though, it’s really good so that isn’t the issue!
Strange the Dreamer is the story of:
the aftermath of a war between gods and men
a mysterious city stripped of its name
a mythic hero with blood on his hands
a young librarian with a singular dream
a girl every bit as perilous as she is imperiled
alchemy and blood candy, nightmares and godspawn, moths and monsters, friendship and treachery, love and carnage.Welcome to Weep.
What did you recently finish reading?
I haven’t finished anything since last week, unfortunately. This should change for next week, thanks to a long weekend! Whoop, whoop!
What do you think you’ll read next?
- Heartsone by Elle Katharine White – This is retelling of Pride and Prejudice but with DRAGONS. Yes, you read that right. Yes, I’m pretty damn excited about it.
- Aftermath: Life Debt (Star Wars: Aftermath, #2) by Chuck Wendig – The second book in Wendig’s trilogy following the defeat of The Empire at the Battle of Endor. I know this series gets a lot of hate due to Wendig’s writing style, but I found the first one enjoyable. It was fun getting follow completely new and different characters.
What books are you currently reading? Have you finished any good ones this week? What’s next on your TBR? Have you read any of the books on my list? If so, what did you think of them?
I’m currently reading The Hate U Give and I finished History is All You Left Me just before that.

eeeeeeeeeeP! Strange the Dreamer *heart eyes* It’s looking more & more like I’ll be reading this one in the summer, glad you’re enjoying so far 😉
I’m so curious about the Starwars Aftermath books though, is this set to be an ongoing series? Happy reading Larkin <3!

I think you’ll really enjoy it, Lilly! It’s so unique and Lazlo is such a great character. I just want to carry him around in my pocket everywhere so he can tell me stories. 😁
It’s just a trilogy and all 3 books are now out. It follows a different cast of characters that aren’t in any of the other books, though a few familiar ones show up throughout.

I’ve been hearing a lot about this Lazlo character lol! I’m so curious and it sits on my nightstand tempting me but I’m really trying to be good with my arcs 😩lol. I’m really interested in the Star Wars trilogy then, seems like something I can buddy read with hubby 😃💕

Good to hear Strange The Dreamer is living up to expectations! And a retelling with dragons?! That sounds pretty much fantastic! I will be looking forward to your thoughts on that one. Happy reading!

Yeah, I really recommend it! It’s a very whimsical and atmospheric type fantasy. 😊

I’m glad you’re enjoying The Strange the dreamer! I haven’t read it yet but I really want to. I’ve read Heart Stone but I was left disappointed with it because most of the plot is dragged. I recently finished Burn Before Reading by Sara Wolf and Flame In The Mist by Renee Ahdieh. I loved both of these book and I hope you check them out too. I’m currently reading Water spell by Lizzy ford. It’s a new adult fantasy read and so far, it was good. For my next read, I might pick up either A Girl Like Me by Ginger Scott or The Gauntlet by Megan Shepherd.

Yeah, I’m really enjoying it! It’s been a little slow but it’s really picking up now and I’m excited to see where it goes… Oh no, I was really excited for Heartstone too! I’m sorry that it didn’t live up to your expectations… I have Flame in the Mist and am really excited for it! It sounds soooo amazing! I hope you enjoy your reading! 😊

Yaaaas for Strange the Dreamer! It took me FOREVER to finish that book – it was just super dense and descriptive and heavy – but I really, really enjoyed how mythical and imaginative it is. Hope you continue enjoying it right until the end. ❤

Thanks! That’s exactly how I feel about it too! I think Taylor could’ve dropped about 100 pages and it would’ve been just as good.

I wonder about that! A lot of the beauty is (personally) in the world-building – Taylor could probably afford to be more economical, but I wonder if it’ll result in a different, less mythical-feeling book.

I do agree that’s Taylor’s strong suit, I just would like a bit more action too. If you’re going to write almost 600 pages, then I would like some action to break up the pacing a bit. But I don’t know if he would end up taking away from the atmosphere that she was writing.
