Moon Chosen (Tales of a New World, #1) by P.C. Cast

Slowly making my way through this book, as I haven’t really been reading a whole bunch the past few days. I felt like I needed to take a little step back before I read myself right into a dreaded reading slump. I’m only about 100 pages into this, but I’m enjoying it so far.

Chosen to embrace her true identity. Chosen to follow her destiny. Chosen to change her world.

Mari is an Earth Walker, heir to the unique healing powers of her Clan, but she has been forced to turn from her duties, until she is chosen by a special animal ally, altering her destiny forever. When a deadly attack tears her world apart, Mari reveals the strength of her powers and the forbidden secret of her dual nature as she embarks on a mission to save herself and her people. It is not until Nik, the son of the leader from a rival, dominating Tribe, strays across her path that Mari experiences something she has never felt before…

Now evil is coming, and with it, a force more terrible and destructive than the world has ever seen, leaving Mari to cast the shadows from the earth. By breaking Clan Law and forming an alliance with Nik, she must make herself ready. Ready to save her people. Ready to save herself and Nik. Ready to embrace her true destiny…and battle the forces that threaten to destroy them all.

I’m also still reading Jill’s debut book, Corrupt Me. I haven’t read any more of it since this weekend, as I’m waiting for my physical copy that she sent me to arrive! It’s supposed to be here tomorrow and I am soooooo thrilled! That girl is such an awesome person and one of my besties. You should all go check out her blog at Rant and Rave About Books!

The Secret History by Donna Tartt

This one was enjoyable, even if all of the characters were extremely dislikable – pretty sure that was the point, too. I liked how you start off knowing who’s the murderer and who was killed, and then going back to tell the story of how and why. It was an interesting story, if completely unrealistic. Come on, no college kids are actually like that and I don’t care if it even was the 80’s! I should have a full review up tomorrow for this one.

Under the influence of their charismatic classics professor, a group of clever, eccentric misfits at an elite New England college discover a way of thinking and living that is a world away from the humdrum existence of their contemporaries. But when they go beyond the boundaries of normal morality they slip gradually from obsession to corruption and betrayal, and at last – inexorably – into evil.

What do you think you’ll read next?

These are the rest of the books I plan on reading this month. I may be able to have time to squeeze a couple more in, as I will be on holiday from work for about a week and a half! I’m so excited for this break, and completely thankful that I get to work at a company with such good benefits. I was hoping for a read-a-thon being hosted during that week, but I haven’t come across one yet. Let me know if you hear about any going on around the 21st-3rd!

What books are you currently reading? What books do you have left on your December TBR? Have you read any of the ones on my list? Are you joining us this month in reading A Thousand Pieces of You, for Hype or Like Friday? Leave a link to your WWW Wednesday post in the comments below!

  2. Nice WWW Larkin! & I wish I worked at a company with some nice benefits that allowed for some leisurely reading at home *sends a wish up to the Book Gods* lol. I’m reading Roseblood by A.G. Howard but you’ve just reminded me of The Architect Of Song. I had it on my GR TBR but had forgotten about how much the synopsis intrigued me. I believe Jill sent me a copy of her book as well, so I’m waiting for that as well. Happy reading December 🙂

    1. Thank you! And I really did luck out with my job, as we get a really nice amount of PTO and paid holidays. I just saved up all of my vacation days for the holidays! 😊
Oh, I’m so excited for Roseblood! I loved Howard’s Splintered trilogy. I have really high hopes for The Architect of Song as I was told recently by someone that it was one of their favorite reads of 2016! 😱
I hope you enjoy Jill’s novels as well when you get to them! 😊

      1. Oh nice! I am slowly accruing time now that things have settled down with my new Kindergartener. I’m hoping to have enough for a vacation, staycation, and some time off next year for the holidays 😂 I’m on a mission 😉 I’ll be starting Roseblood this week & if I LOVE it then I’ll pick up The Architect Of Song & The Splintered series 😬 & thanks I’m sure I will, she worked really hard on her first novel 💕

  4. I can’t wait to see what everyone thinks of Corrupt Me! I wish I had been able to sign up for a review copy, but I was already feeling a little overwhelmed with other review copies and library books and didn’t want to add to it 😛
I’m also excited to see everyone’s Hype or Like Friday reviews for A Thousand Pieces of You. I read that book a year or two ago and loved it.
