The Secret History by Donna Tartt

Hampden College, as a body, was always strangely prone to hysteria. Whether from isolation, malice, or simple boredom, people there were far more credulous and excitable than educated people are generally believed to be, and this hermetic, overheated atmosphere made it a thriving black petri dish of melodrama and distortion.

This book… I just… It’s just… I don’t know. It’s strange, pretentious, highly unbelievable, and just plain weird. Yet, here I am, completely engrossed in it. If you haven’t picked this one up – I recommend you doing it at some point! Donn Tartt must be one strange lady to have thought this story up.

      1. I don’t think it would be any time soon, but the fact that it’s better than The Goldfinch sounds promising. The prose in that one was excellent, but the pace is superslow.

  1. Ooh I have this on my TBR. I don’t remember who it was, but there was a blogger raving about this book a few months ago and made me want to read it haha
