Subscription Box Review: Owlcrate – November 2016

Owlcrate is a monthly bookish subscription box that includes one new release YA hardback novel, as well as 3-5 other bookish items. Each month revolves around a different theme that ties in with the book and goodies. It is also one of the few boxes that ships almost anywhere in the world. Subscriptions start at $29.99 per month.

The theme for November wasΒ Wonderland.

  • Wonderland Elixir Tea –Β This Owlcrate exclusively designed tea blend is fromΒ Riddle’s Tea ShoppeΒ andΒ Adagio. This tea is a blend of decaf ceylon, peach, vanilla, marigold flowers, spice, apricots, apples, oranges, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and cloves. I haven’t tried it yet but my dad did. He said it was alright and very light. I prefer my tea strong but I still plan to try some! And that tin is freaking gorgeous, right?!
  • Bookmark –Β When I found out thatΒ Authored AdornmentsΒ was creating a piece for this box, I was a little hesitant because even though I love their jewelry, it’s not really my style to wear. However, when I opened up this box to see this amazing bookmark, I was so happy! I love, love, love it! I just hope it’s not too heavy and bends my pages.
  • Magnet –Β I’m kind of obsessed with all of the supremely talentedΒ Evie Bookish‘s designs, and this beautiful magnet is no different. I highly recommend her Society 6 and RedBubble shops if you’re looking for bookish items to purchase. I own lots of her goodies, including 2 pillows and a blanket for my Pride and Prejudice themed bed decor. πŸ™‚
  • Paperback Book –Β Owlcrate teamed up again to bring the originalΒ Alice in WonderlandΒ book with an exclusive cover fromΒ Rock Paper Books. The cover and matching bookmark were designed by the artist, Risa Rodil. I highly recommend checking out Rock Paper Books if you’re looking for a classic with a fresh and modernized artistic cover. Y’all, their books are gorgeous!
  • Hardcover Book –Β The Owlcrate book this month wasΒ HeartlessΒ by Marissa Meyer. This was cover edition was created exclusively for Owlcrate and can’t be found anywhere else! How cool is that?! It’s beautiful too. You can’t tell from the picture, but the colored areas are shiny! I’ve heard great things about this book, so I can’t wait to read it. If you love fairytale retellings – this book is for you! It really helps that retellings are Meyer’s specialty, as I’m sure you’ve heard of her other series,Β The Lunar Chronicles.Β And as always, there was a letter included from the author and an adorable quote card. Swoon!

Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland and a favorite of the unmarried King, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, she wants to open a shop and create delectable pastries. But for her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for a woman who could be a queen.
At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the King’s marriage proposal, she meets handsome and mysterious Jest. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into a secret courtship.
Cath is determined to choose her own destiny. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.

Overall, this was a great box this month. I’ve always loved the very whimsical Wonderland and I think that the Owlcrate curators did a great job matching that.Β All of the items included were perfect and very high quality. What more can you ask for?!

The theme for the December box is Epic,Β and will feature a high fantasy novel starring some LGBTQA characters.Β Boxes are still available, but hurry and signup fast if you’re interested as they do sell out!

  1. I really like this month’s box, apart from the tea. It had such an intense smell that I had to hide it in the back of the pantry closet. It was making me sneeze. Lol I love that we got an exclusive cover of Heartless. I think that made this box worth the money more so than other months. The month before with Vassa was such a disappointment I almost cancelled until I saw the theme was Wonderland. I’m glad I waited. πŸ™‚

    1. Yeah, I would’ve gotten the November box just for the exclusive book cover because I like pretty things. πŸ˜‚
And yeah, the tea had a very interesting smell. I’m not sure if I’ll like it or not but I’m willing to try it. If I don’t, at least the tin is pretty! And I definitely agree that this box was sooooooo much better than the October box!

      1. I like the tin, but I couldn’t stand the smell any longer than the time it took to take the picture. I might ask my mom to dump it out and give me the tin once it’s cleaned. My allergies are horrible. I’m curious what you’ll think of the tea. I was so bummed about October. That stupid Pan hat and that awful book I couldn’t stand. And to make it worse, I got the same book from Fairy Loot, who charges a fortune. πŸ˜‚

  2. You can never go wrong with boxes that come with tea! And yes, that tin is AMAZING! I love it! Enjoy Heartless (I’m so digging the white cover). πŸ™‚

  3. I loved this month’s box. I’m really happy with the exclusive cover, too. I was a little nervous that I would end up liking the regular cover better but be stuck with this one, but I love it! I like the bookmark too and I’ve found that as long as you put it over a few pages instead of just clipping it to one page, it doesn’t bend the pages at all. Love the tea tin too (I don’t even drink tea but I’m going to try it eventually since I have it lol). Basically, I just loved everything about this box! haha

    1. I was too! But I love the shiny parts and it really pops against the white! 😍 This box definitely delivered!
Oh, good! I was so worried to use it until someone could confirm my pages wouldn’t bend lol. I’m super picky about messing up my books πŸ™ˆ. And I hope you love the tea! If you like it, then I highly recommend Earl Grey if you haven’t before. It’s smooth, light, and smells heavenly. 😊

      1. I was kind of worried about it too haha But yeah as long as I put it over a few pages and also don’t slide it all the way down, my pages haven’t gotten bent πŸ™‚ I hope I like the tea too! haha If I end up liking it, I’ll give Earl Grey a try too! πŸ™‚

  4. I didn’t love Heartless as much as Meyer’s previous series but thought it was one of her best writings so far! I loveee all the little trinkets from Owlcrate, and the fact that they made an exclusive cover just for the subscription box. How cool is that? A++ marketing plan as well. πŸ˜› I hope you love it when you pick it up!

  5. I adored November’s box! Especially the tea, I’m in love with the tea. And I love the exclusive book cover and the fact that the original Alice in Wonderland story was included too. Out of every OwlCrate I’ve gotten this one has been my favorite. Though next month might top it. We’ll see! 😊
