I’m Thankful Someone Recommended Me…
Red Rising (Red Rising, #1) by Pierce Brown
Obviously this book gets mentioned a crap ton on my blog. But I love it so I don’t care… I’m thankful that my wonderful and awesome book-loving dad recommended this book to me. I guess I should say, more like he forced me to read this book! And I am soooooooo glad that he did. Thanks to him, this book/trilogy is now one of my all-time favorites. I’d even say it’s equal to Harry Potter… GASP!
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz
I’m thankful for one of my first blogging buddies, Britt @ Geronimo Reads, for recommending this book to me. She raved about it so much! I’m not a huge contemporary fan, but I decided to read this one because of how enthusiastic Britt was. And I’m so glad that I did! I really enjoyed the relationship between Dante and Ari. I also appreciated the fact that both family units were extremely close and supportive, which is something that I find lacking in a lot of YA novels. And yay for diversity!!!
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
I’m thankful to my ex for recommending this book to me. He’s not the biggest reader, so when he was going on about how much fun this book was – I knew I had to try it. It does help that we are both big gamers and understood a lot of the references made in the book!
Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas
This one is a little different, as it wasn’t so much as recommended as completely trashed by Liam @ Hey Ashers! in one of his hilariously sarcastic rants. I’m thankful to him for making me cry from laughter and giving me a reason to pick this book up to see for myself what all the fuss was about. I was so prepared to hate on it, really I was! But, while the first book was just alright, this series has turned into one of my guilty pleasures. There are tons of issues with them but I enjoy them so much, I don’t even care. 100% pure entertainment!
What are some books that you are thankful for being recommended to you? What are your thoughts on the books from my list? Leave a link to your Hype or Like Friday post in the comments!
Haha i get you about Liam’s posts trashing tog- even if I too ended up loving this series! And I agree about red riding! Great post!

Haha yes! He trashed it so much that he ended up making me want to read it so I could trash it too. And then I ended up enjoying it 😂. Thank you!

OMG I love Arisotle and Dante Discover the Secrets to the Universe! And the author is writing a sequel! I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about Red Rising, so I’m definitely going to have to check that out.

Yes, it was so good! I’m actually a little bummed there’s a sequel. I enjoyed that the ending left you imagining what was going to happen next. But I’ll probably end up reading it anyways haha!
And yes, you’ve got to read Red Rising! It’s soooooo good. And Golden Son is even better!

It’s definitely on my TBR, but it may take a while for me to get to it because my TBR consists of over 200 books at the moment… Hopefully the sequel for Ari and Dante is as good as the first one.

Hahaha oh, I feel your TBR pain! So many books to read, and so little time to read them in.

I haven’t read Aristotle and Dante but I love all of the others! Red Rising – oh, man – Darrow is my forever book boyfriend. Ready Player One is awesome for my gen (I’m old – so I knew every single reference). And I am madly in love with the ToG series.

Oh, I highly recommend it! And yessss, Darrow is awesome but if I could combine him and Severo’s personalities, that would make for the perfect book boyfriend. 😁

I read 3/4 of the books you put on your list, and loved them all. Great list!

Yeah, the first one wasn’t my favorite either but I’ve enjoyed the rest! And Ready Player One was a fun read, for sure!

Everyone has told me that the series gets better and I should continue reading… but I don’t know… I may change my mind! (Probably not, but anything is possible right?) lol!

Hahaha don’t feel pressured! Do what you want, even if that means not reading a really popular series lol.

I LOVE Red Rising! That book was so exciting and heart-stopping, and I love the world Brown created too. Have you finished the series?! Which was your favourite of the three?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes!!! I finished them as soon as each book was released! And I’d have to say that my favorite is Golden Son. That book was such a rollercoaster of emotions and I absolutely loved it!

Yay!! I’m so glad you enjoyed Ari & Dante enough to put it on here. It’s SO GOOD!! I need to get around to Red Rising uughhhh… fail.

I’m thankful for Jill recommending me Throne of Glass because my favorite sport now is to make fun of Celaena :p The three other books have been recommended a lot recently and they’re all on my TBR!

I’ve been wanting to read Ready Player One for ages. I totally need to get on that one. I remember when Brit recommended Aristotle and Dante. She even had it in her tag today and I mentioned our little convo with that book and ADSOM when we were creating Hype or Like Friday. After reading Liam’s snark reviews, I also put ToG higher on my TBR and actually liked it. I was so sure I would hate it. Liam’s reviews were so funny. He had me laughing every day. 🙂

Yes, I remember that!! And Ready Player One was just a fun quick read. But I had the same experience with ToG! I really thought I’d hate it but that ended up definitely not being the case.

Ready Player One <3. I started ACOTAR yesterday and was fully prepared to hate it. Well, screw you Sarah J. Maas is all I have to say now. I bet I'll end up liking the Throne of Glass series as well!

Hahaha! If you’re wnjoying ACOTAR, just wait until you start ACOMAF. I can’t wait to see what you think of it!

You know, I had NO idea there was a beauty and the beast theme going on in here until now :D. But I heard about people who thought ACOTAR was nice yet ACOMAF was mind blowing for them. DU DUN DUUUUN!

Hahaha! Yeah, the second was better (and wayyyy longer). But they both still suffer from pacing I think, that’s probably the biggest issue for me.

“I’d even say it’s equal to Harry Potter… GASP!”
GASP indeed! I’ve heard so many great things about Red Rising, but I STILL haven’t gotten around to it. What on earth is wrong with me? But of all the praise that’s been written about it, this is probably the most immediately convincing for me. I don’t know if I’ll have time to read it before the end of this year, but come 2017, nothing can hold me back.
And, man, I still need to try Aristotle and Dante! I tend to forget about the contemporaries languishing on my TBR; thanks for reminding me of this one!
I can’t tell you how happy I am that my dumb snark pointed you toward a series you now love. That’s the best possible outcome I could hope for. =D

Well most probably wouldn’t put it that high on their favorites, but I definitely enjoyed it enough for it be that high! It’s just such an amazing world and the story is fantastically complex with the politics and action. I cannot recommend it enough!
Yeah, I’m not the biggest contemporary reader, like at all. But I’m really glad I gave this one a shot after Britt told me about it. It was such a good story!
Haha! ToG has definitely become my new guilty pleasure, and it’s all because of you! Thank you so much 😊
