Yes, I do realize that it’s already October 10th and I’m just now getting to this wrap-up. Y’all just go easy on me, I’ve had a busy week! You can read my original Smashing Series September postย HERE.
I think I did alright for my reading challenge last month, as I was able to finish 3/5 of the series that I had chosen. And I’m currently finishing up my 4th series, as well. I wasn’t able to read as much as I had hoped due to going a little slow with one series as it wasn’t holding my interest as much as I’d hoped – looking at youย The Winner’sย Trilogy. Here were the books that I was able to finish last month! Click on the title to see my review for that book!
- The Wicked Will Rise (Dorothy Must Die, #2)ย by Danielle Paige – 4 stars
- Yellow Brick War (Dorothy Must Die, #3)ย by Danielle Paige – 3 stars
- The Winnerโs Crime (The Winnerโs Trilogy, #2)ย by Marie Rutkoski – 4 stars
- The Winnerโs Kiss (The Winnerโs Trilogy, #3)ย by Marie Rutkoski – 2 stars
- The Heart of Betrayal (The Remnant Chronicles, #2)ย by Mary E. Pearson – to be reviewed
- Theย Beauty of Darkness (The Remnant Chronicles, #3)ย by Mary E. Pearson – to be reviewed
I enjoyed the majority of these books, but unfortunately I was a little disappointed by two of them. For me, the final book in a series should be the strongest in terms of character development, plot, writing, etc. But apparently some authors just don’t seem to understand that *cough* Rutkoskiย *cough*, and decideย to go in a completely different direction. Hopefullyย Half Lost (Half Bad Trilogy, #3) doesn’t turn out to disappoint me too! Fingers crossed!
Here are the books that I didn’t finish during September but am finishing up this month…
What are some series or trilogies that you didn’tย like theย ending of? Are there any series that you’ve started but haven’t gotten around to finishing yet?
I want to read that Half Bad series. A friend has them all so I’m going to borrow them soon.

I’ve really enjoyed it so far! It’s definitely an interesting take on witches and I like how it used underlying themes of race and prejudice.

You got through some great series this month. I haven’t read the remainder of the Dorothy Must Die books, honestly I was a little disappointed with the second book so never picked up the third. I really enjoyed The Winner’ trilogy though, it’s a shame you didn’t enjoy the last book though.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the Throne of Glass series, it’s a favourite of mine, and I really want to start the Half Bad series myself one day, I hope you enjoy those books as well! ๐

Thank you! Yeah, I was disappointed in how both Dorothy Must Die and The Winner’s Trilogies ended. But I really enjoyed The Remnant Chronicles.
I really recommend the Half Bad series. I’m reading the final book right now and it’s been such a unique take on witches! Hope you enjoy it as well! ๐

I guess there are just some series that can’t live up to your expectations. Did you have high hopes for the ending to The Winner’s Trilogy and Dorothy Must Die?
Ohh, for some reason I can’t think of many books off the top of my heard about witches, but yeah I’ll definitely check this series out. Thanks! ๐

Yeah, I think I had the highest expectations for The Winner’s Trilogy because the first book was soooo good. I just didn’t like the direction that it went in with the final one. I just didn’t like who the characters turned into.
And you’re so welcome!

I love the smashing series idea! I’ve been trying to finish up on some series, or at least up to the latest published. It’s so hard when bookclub starts a new series (we read 3 books a month) or ones I’ve had my eye on somehow seem to fall into my hands! I did read yellow brick war thinking it was the last, only to discover it wasn’t! Also, have you read the novellas? Do they count to you in a series? I’m trying to make my mind up on that one!

Thank you! I’m the same way! I constantly pick up a new book and then I realize it’s part of a series… Yeah, I didn’t realize Yellow Brick War wasn’t the final book until I read it. Definitely wasn’t expecting that! And no, I don’t ever read any novellas. I almost feel like they’re a bit pointless and are just another way to squeeze money out of people. That’s so awful to think though! ๐

Go girl! You’re really smashing those series! I still have to finish the Red Rising and Splintered series. It’s so weird because before I was a book blogger I always finished a series before starting a new one.

Thank you! It’s definitely a work in progress. I started off easy but it’s ToG series that’s gonna take me forever as I’ve got 4 books to get through and they’re all pretty dense. And don’t worry, I’m the same way! But you seriously need to finish Red Rising because Golden Son is the absolute shit!

Yeah, Golden Son is on my TBR for next month. I have quite a few dense books on next month’s TBR. I feel like once I catch up I need to start finishing my series. ๐
