TOPIC OF THE WEEK: I Love Science: My Favorite Science Fiction Books
My Top 5 Favorite Science Fiction Books
The Red Rising TrilogyΒ by Pierce Brown
I don’t even have to justify why this trilogy is my all-time favorite science fiction series. It just is. You should read it and see it’s awesomeness for yourself. I promise you won’t regret it! Also, Brown is currently writing the follow up series that is set about 5-10 years after the ending ofΒ Morning Star.
Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)Β &Β Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2)Β by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
IlluminaeΒ is amazing and unique in both the story and the way the writing is formatted. Unfortunately,Β GeminaΒ was a small drop-off from the first book but I’m liking where I think the story is headed next. It hasn’t been released just yet (1 more month to go!) and I can’t wait to see the drawings that Marie Lu created for it. Yep, you heard that right! Big thanks to BookCon for allowing me to grab an ARC and have it signed by the authors. They’re pretty great people! π
Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the SithΒ by Matthew Stover
Make fun of me all you want, but this book answered so many plot holes from the movie. I think it was a great novelization that was better able to flesh out the story and character development. I highly recommend it for any of you Star Wars fans out there! I also recommend The Clone Wars tv show but that’s not a book. Moving on…
Jurassic ParkΒ by Michael Crichton
This is a great book. It’s an ever greater book if you don’t compare it to the movie version because they are nothing alike. Seriously, just don’t because they aren’t the same. I had to learn that the hard way, which made it hard for me to accept just how good this book was. But I promise it’s still a good book!
The HostΒ by Stephenie Meyer
DON’T JUDGEΒ ME! But this book far, far, far, far exceeded herΒ TwilightΒ series. It’s like night and day between the two, not even comparable.Β The HostΒ has depth, a unique concept, better writing, characters, etc. If you haven’t given this book a chance because of who wrote it, please reconsider. I think you might just be surprised!
What do you think about my science fiction recommendations? WhichΒ scifi books would you recommend? Leave a link to your Hype or Like Friday post in the comments below!
Red Rising is on my list of books to read before the end of the year, but I’m keeping it for long winter nights π
I am still unsure whether or not I want to read Illuminae because of the format.
Great picks!

Thanks, Donna! I hope you fall in love with Red Rising as much as I have! And the format for Illuminae can be a little strange at first, but the story itself is just so great and unique. π

I recently bought Red Rising and should be starting that soon. I also loved the novelization of Revenge of the Sith. You should try to read The Thrawn Trilogy.

I really hope you enjoy it!.. Yes, I’ve debated reading Thrawn but once it become just part of the Legends, I wasn’t too sure. But I noticed they’re bringing back Thrawn for Rebels this season so I might go back and read them for a little background info on the admiral. Thanks for the recommendation!

Ha! You know I’ve been called a saint in two Hype or Like posts now. π Thank you! I’m just glad you’re back in action, girlie! Red Rising is also on my list. I have a few others that most people probably won’t be familiar with but I shall familiarize them. π I’m posting in a little bit. I still need to tweak it. I can’t say enough about how much I love Red Rising. That was the best rec anyone has ever given me and you gave it to me. Go girl! Jurassic Park is amazing! Have you seen the old one digitally remastered in 3D? You will be shocked by how good it looks. It looks better that the last Marvel movie I saw in 3D. Love Jurassic Park. I’ve tried to get into Star Wars, but I haven’t seen all the movies. Crazy, right? I’m a huge Stark Trek fan and haven’t seen all of these movies it’s shocking, I know. I own the new one and still haven’t watched more than a few minutes. I’ve had no patience for TV or movies lately just books. π

Oh man, don’t let it go to your head or anything lol!.. Ohhh, I can’t wait to see your list now! I’m always looking for some new science fiction novels. My brother and dad read science fiction nonstop but most of those don’t really appeal to me all that much. I’m so glad I got you to read Red Rising too! Adding to the fandom is my life’s work – I think I’ve personally added about 5 people so far to it, haha.. No, I haven’t seen the old Jurassic Park in 3D but that sounds amazing! It’s probably one of my all-time favorites movies. And stop whatever you’re doing and go watch the Star Wars films!!! Start with the original trilogy first and I highly, HIGHLY recommend The Clone Wars tv show which is available on Netflix. Just make sure to watch it between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, it’ll make the experience soooo much better. Seriously, Star Wars is the best!!! And yes, I might be a little obsessed.

I’m working on the list now. I’m so behind now that I’m moving to Florida in a few weeks. Crazy busy lately. I love science fiction. It’s my dad’s favorite and I grew up with it. I’m glad you’re telling me the order to watch Star Wars because everyone’s opinion on that varies, which makes it so hard to figure out where to start. That’s why I never watched the whole series just some pieces here and there and was so confused anyway. Ha! I already knew you were obsessed with Star Wars. Fangirl away. π

Totally understandable. But trust me on this, watch the original first and then make your way to the present. It makes it way more exciting that way! I’ll be waiting patiently for your opinion when you finish! π

Will do! Haha! I hope I like them or you’ll be so bummed. π

I really need to read The Host. I initially avoided it because it was Stephenie Meyer, but everyone says that it’s so much better than Twilight was.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, it really is! It’s just a much more mature book in every way. I still have to wrap my head around the fact that Meyer wrote this book AND Twilight. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Red Rising is very high on my list but other books just keep getting in the way first! I also loved The Host. I agree that everyone should give it a chance. Its a great story with a unique concept. Great list!

Thank you! I hope you get to Red Rising soon, as it’s probably in my top 3 all-time favorite series. I can’t recommend it enough! π

Both the Red Rising trilogy and The Illuminae Files are two of my favourite sci-fi series! I haven’t actually read many sci-fi books despite really enjoying the genre but I know a load of people love those books as well so I guess I must have started off with the best of the best! π
I still need to read Morning Star but I’ve heard amazing things about it so I can’t wait to get started!
Great picks for this week’s theme! π

Yes! They’re both so unique and just fantastic stories! I might be a little biased but I definitely think you started off with the best ;).. Morning Star was great but I think that Golden Son is my favorite out of the three, which is strange since it’s the second book and second books are usually the worst in a series lol.

Well based on what I’ve read of what it’s going to be hard to top either.
I do remember enjoying Golden Son a lot more than Red Rising, but one of my issues with Red Rising was the fact that it was so slow to start. I’m hoping Morning Star will be pretty amazing as well. I need to get around to it soon. π

I love The Host and wish that Stephanie Meyer would write a sequel to this novel. βΊ
