Hype or Like Friday – September 9th, 2016

Woohoo, it’s Hype or Like Friday again! This meme and Goodreads group were created by myself, Jill @ Rant and Rave Books, and Britt @ Geronimo Reads. Yes, I have been a terrible co-creator these past couple of months. And yes, Jill is a saint for still being my friend after my absence. Everyone go say hi to Jill! To join our group and find out more information about what it’s all about, please go to our Goodreads page HERE.

TOPIC OF THE WEEK: I Love Science: My Favorite Science Fiction Books

My Top 5 Favorite Science Fiction Books

Red-Rising-Trilogy-by-Pierce-Brown

The Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown

I don’t even have to justify why this trilogy is my all-time favorite science fiction series. It just is. You should read it and see it’s awesomeness for yourself. I promise you won’t regret it! Also, Brown is currently writing the follow up series that is set about 5-10 years after the ending of Morning Star.

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) & Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Illuminae is amazing and unique in both the story and the way the writing is formatted. Unfortunately, Gemina was a small drop-off from the first book but I’m liking where I think the story is headed next. It hasn’t been released just yet (1 more month to go!) and I can’t wait to see the drawings that Marie Lu created for it. Yep, you heard that right! Big thanks to BookCon for allowing me to grab an ARC and have it signed by the authors. They’re pretty great people! 🙂

Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover

Make fun of me all you want, but this book answered so many plot holes from the movie. I think it was a great novelization that was better able to flesh out the story and character development. I highly recommend it for any of you Star Wars fans out there! I also recommend The Clone Wars tv show but that’s not a book. Moving on…

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

This is a great book. It’s an ever greater book if you don’t compare it to the movie version because they are nothing alike. Seriously, just don’t because they aren’t the same. I had to learn that the hard way, which made it hard for me to accept just how good this book was. But I promise it’s still a good book!

The Host by Stephenie Meyer

DON’T JUDGE ME! But this book far, far, far, far exceeded her Twilight series. It’s like night and day between the two, not even comparable. The Host has depth, a unique concept, better writing, characters, etc. If you haven’t given this book a chance because of who wrote it, please reconsider. I think you might just be surprised!
