WWW Wednesday – July 27th, 2016

Welcome to WWW Wednesday which is currently being hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. It’s really just a place to do little update on what all you’ve been reading lately. Anyone is welcome to join, just leave a link to your post in the comments!

The Three Ws are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading…

A Gathering of Shadows Final

A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic, #2) by V.E. Schwab

So I started on this book today after owning it ever since it first came out back in February. I’ll be honest and admit that I’ve been putting off reading it because it took me foreverrrrrr to get into the first book, A Darker Shade of Magic. I’m about 50 pages into this one and it’s starting off much more interesting than its predecessor. Yay! If it turns out to be a 5 star book, then I might just consider reading some of Schwab’s other novels.

Recently Finished…

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas

A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2) by Sarah J. Maas

The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles, #1) by Mary E. Pearson

Well, obviously ACOMAF was brilliant (I almost feel like I didn’t even need to write that). I finished Throne of Glass last night, and while I found it very enjoyable, there something that came across a bit forced for me. And no, I still haven’t figured out what it was exactly. As for The Kiss of Deception – meh. It got better as it went along but it took me over a month to finish it which should tell you everything you need to know. I do plan to finish the series since it’s only the first book and it ended just when something interesting was FINALLY happening.

I plan to have these 3 reviews written up over the next few days. Ultimate procrastinator!

Reading Next…

Uprooted by Naomi Novik

Star Wars: The Force Awakens by Alan Dean Foster

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand

I’ll be making a post about this in the next couple of days, but I’m devoting the month of August to reading only standalone novels. I’ve actually got a bit more than I had first thought and it’ll be nice to clear them out of my TBR shelf. I can just zip through them without having to worry about buying the next book in the series. Only One August will then be followed by Series Smashing September, and I’m sure that name alone can explain what I plan to do for that month. Yup, I’ll be trying to complete all of the series that I have started but haven’t finished yet (ohhhh shit!).

  1. I just finished reading AGOS this morning. I thought ADSOM was better but I still really liked AGOS. I’m dying for the third book now haha
I can’t wait to see what you think of Uprooted! I bought it last month but haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. I’ve seen a lot of good things about it though so hopefully we both enjoy it 🙂

    1. Haha well I hope it lives up to the hype!.. Yeah, I’m thinking that’ll be my next book to read. Everyone raves about it and it’ll be interesting to read a standalone fantasy novel, as there aren’t very many of those!

  2. ADSOM is what started our little Hype or Like group. 🙌 I bought it back when you had recommend it and still haven’t read it. I’m such a slacker. And now I have to read ToG next month so I can do a snark-off with Donna. I guess I’ll see how far I make it into that one. 😂 A big hell yeah to My Lady Jane. I got it last month from OwlCrate and need to read it. I’m hearing so many good things I don’t want to be late to the cool kids party. 😉 This month was This Savage Song. That’s another book I’ve seen all good reviews and want to read. I haven’t read a single OwlCrate book yet. How sad is that? I just keep stacking boxes in my office. 😂 I’m so glad you’re back! High-fives. ❤️ Hugs.

    1. Hahaha I know! You really should try it out, I’d very interested in seeing your thoughts on it. And don’t worry, I don’t think I’ve read any of the Owlcrate books yet either! They just got stuck on my TBR bookshelf lol.. Thank you!!! 😘

      1. The OwlCrate books are more of a novelty, I suppose. I read all ebooks so it’s something nice to add to my overstuffed bookshelves. 😂 Ah, you’re welcome. ❤️ I’ve hardly seen the word ya’ll since you’ve been gone. I was starting to take a real liking to it. Instead of our Northern “you guys.” Lol

      2. I just have so many TBR books that they kind of get buried. The only one I’ve read is The Love That Split the World.. Hahaha well I’m glad to bring it back for you. I probably overuse it though 😂

  3. Schwab is one of my favourite authors and I’m so glad to hear that you’re enjoying AGOS! I think it’s a thing with her books where the action takes FOREVER to pick up, but it ends up becoming worth it. I recommend checking out Vicious – I felt like it was more fast-paced than the Shades of Magic series. 🙂

    1. Ahhh, well that would make sense then. I am enjoying the beginning of this one more so it’s giving me hope that her other books are worth trying out. I’ll definitely pick up Vicious. I got it at the library once but I never got around to reading it before it was due haha!

    1. Thank you! I’ve been on a fantasy kick recently so I thought I’d mix it up a bit next, haha.. Yeah, I was in a major reading slump for a while but I’m so glad to come out of it. I hope you do too! 🙂

    1. Yeah, Schwab is slowly growing on me. I’m thinking I’ll try Vicious next and see how I feel… Yesssss, ACOMAF was perfection. I just wish the twist in the end had surprised me more. I had already guessed that’s what would happen early on in the book. I can’t wait to see what you think of Uprooted!
