THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: What’s your most favorite “chunky” book? (over 500 pages)
I’m Super Excited to Tell You… THAT I’M BACK!!!!! (to blogging, obviously)
First off, let me apologize for my absence from you beautiful, lovely, amazing perfect booknerds! After BookCon, I went into a bit of a reading slump and then I started working at a new job (and guys, adulting sucks). But luckily, I have finally gotten back into reading and have finished up a couple of books recently that I should hopefully be getting reviews written up soon – namely ACOMAF and The Kiss of Deception. So anyways, I just wanted to say that I’m sorry about my absence from both the blog and my bookstagram account and I hope you don’t hate me too much for it!
I Bought The Following Book(s) This Past Week…
Because I’ve been gone for so long, I’ll bring you guys up to date on my book buying – because even when I’m in a reading slump, I cannot help myself! So since May, I have bought the following books…
- A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2) by Sarah J. Maas (obviously!)
- Uprooted by Naomi Novik (who I also got to hear speak on a panel at BookCon)
- The Hidden Oracle (The Trials of Apollo, #1) by Rick Riordan (yup, I totes read MG books)
- The Demon King (Seven Realms, #1) by Cinda Williams Chima (Regan, a fabulous booktuber has sold me on needing to read this series)
- My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand (I’m a sucker for historical fiction, especially when you mix it with comedy)
- The 5th Wave (The 5th Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey (my dad loved it so I figured I’ll try it out as I did really enjoy the movie)
- Legacy of Kings (Blood of Gods and Royals, #1) by Eleanor Herman (more awesome sounding historical fiction)
- The Crown’s Game (The Crown’s Game, #1) by Evelyn Skye (gotta see what all of the hype is about)
- Front Lines (Soldier Girl, #1) by Michael Grant (girls fighting in WWII? badass!)
So what have you been reading lately? Have you read any of the books that I’ve bought? Thoughts? Comments? Anyone?….Bueler?
So glad to see you back to blogging, Larkin!
The only one of the books that I’ve read from your list is Front Lines which is really fantastic and I hope you enjoy reading it whenever you get around to it. Uprooted, Legacy of Kings, and My Lady Jane I all own though, I just need to actually read them haha

Thank you!.. Oh, I’m glad you liked Front Lines! It was an impulse buy for me as I hadn’t anything about it, just sounded really interesting haha!

I won an ARC of it from Epic Reads back in December or January and really loved it! I’m a big fan of WWII historical fiction so it was perfect for me 🙂

Oh, that’s so cool! I’m a big WWII fan, as well! I hope you’ve read The Nightingale!

I haven’t yet, but it’s definitely on my TBR! Next time I buy some books, I’ll probably grab that one.

Welcome back, Larkin! Hope you enjoy My Lady Jane – I really enjoyed that one and don’t generally gravitate towards historical fiction. The Crown’s Game I’m a bit meh about, but some people really loved it, so hopefully you’re one of them. 😛
I’m currently reading Girl Against the Universe and several review copies! Not making a whole lot of good progress because life has all of a sudden been busy and stressful, but hey. ❤

Thank you so much!
I’m really looking forward to My Lady Jane as I’ve heard such good things about it! I think everyone has either really liked The Crown’s Game, or hated it which is why I actually decided to buy it haha. I’ve got to see which side I agree with!
Oh, I’ve heard some good things about that book I hope you’re enjoying it! And I know all about being busy and stressed but I hope life calms down for you soon. 🙂

Yay, welcome back Larkin!!!
You’ve bought so many great books! A bunch of them are on my TBR. I loved The Hidden Oracle so much. It’s been one of my favourite reads so far this year. I really hope you enjoy it too 😊

Thank you so much, Lauren!
I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed The Hidden Oracle! I was so torn about buying it because it’s been a while since I’ve read Percy Jackson and I was a bit scared I wouldn’t enjoy Riordan as much now that I’m a bit older, but you’ve erased those fears!

I just noticed you wrote a welcome back post! Yay! I feel like it’s been ages since the last time you posted. Well, we all missed you. Obviously. 🤗 You have a lot of good choices on your list. I never read the Percy Jackson books, but I was thinking about reading The Hidden Oracle. My Lady Jane came in last month’s OwlCrate royalty box, and I’ve been dying to read it but I have so many ARCs to read and review. I got an ARC of Nevernight. I remember you got one at BookCon. Did you read it yet? I’m really liking what I’ve read so far.

Haha thank you, and yeah it really has been ages!.. I actually didn’t get an ARC of Nevernight at BookCon. They weren’t giving any out at that point I don’t think. Kristoff just was telling me to look for it coming soon. I’m really excited about it though!

Oh damn I thought you got an ARC. I remember you and Kristoff tweeting about it. I was thinking you had an ARC. Well, the wait is almost over. If you pre-order, you get a signed copy. It’s only for the US. The book is really good. I’m loving it.

Nope, I just got an ARC of Gemina! But thanks for letting me know! I’ll definitely check it out.

Ah, that’s it. I still need to read the Illuminae files. Fair warning Nevernight is a beast. It’s over 600 pages, so it’s a real commitment. But I think you said you liked his other books, so if you’re into his writing style, then you shouldn’t have a problem with it. There’s footnotes though. That’s my only issue, but it’s not affecting my rave review.

That’s not too bad, I enjoy a nice thick book every now and then. And I’ve heard about the footnotes which I find extremely interesting as not many books use them nowadays.

I can’t recall ever reading fiction with footnotes. The only issue I’m having is that a galley has it at the end of the chapter. The hardback comes in two weeks, so I guess I’ll see what it looks like printed, but I kinda wish the Kindle had it beneath the numbers or even linked to them. I’ve seen kindle books where it’s linked and you can click on it.
