Hype or Like Friday – April 7th, 2016

I am so happy to announce that this is the first post for our brand new meme, Hype or Like Friday. This is meme hosted by myself, Britt @ Geronimo Reads, and Jill @ Rant and Rave About Books. We have a Goodreads group where we will choose a new hyped book each month to read and then discuss. Also, we will post a new discussion topic each week to write about in our meme. I don’t think everyone is doing this part, but I will also be reading a hyped book each week and talk about it in the post as well. If you’re interested, you can join our group HERE.

  • Answer the weekly discussion topic.
  • Discuss your chosen hyped book of the week.
  • Optional: Talk about your progress on the BOTM.

TOPIC OF THE WEEK: Top 10 Hyped Books

My Top 10 Hyped Books TBR List (That I Actually Own)

1. Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo

Everyone raves about this book and I think it’s universally agreed to be a big step up from the Grisha Trilogy. If that’s the case, then sign me the heck up! And it’s full of moral ambiguous anti-heroes? YES!

2. The Young Elites (The Young Elites, #1) by Marie Lu

A book about some badass chick “with blackness in her heart” sounds like it’s right up my alley. Can’t wait to find out about her for myself.

3. Wolf by Wolf (Wolf By Wolf, #1) by Ryan Graudin

Werewolf? Check. Historical fiction? Check. Alternate history? Check. Yeahhhh, what could go wrong? Nothing, absolutely nothing. This book looks like a it’s going to be a fantastic ride.

4. Truthwitch (The Witchlands, #1) by Susan Dennard

There is so much back and forth from people on this book with differing opinions on it. I love that kind of book that gets such opposing views. Controversial books are so fun to read because I can’t wait to see which side I end up on!

5. The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater

I honestly am not really sure what this book is actually about. I just bought it because I saw how much everyone on bookstagram and fellow bloggers love it. So I bought it. I guess I’ll find out what it’s about when I read it. I think there’s a group of boys in it? And one is named Gansey, right?

6. The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles, #1) by Mary E. Pearson

Another book that I’m not entirely sure what the synopsis is. I have a feeling it’s got something to do with romance and a princess.

7. Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas

All you hear about is how much of a badass Celaena Sardothien is. Yeah, well I intend on seeing for myself just how badass she really is. You can’t talk the talk, if you can’t walk the walk.

8. Falling Kingdoms (Falling Kingdoms, #1) by Morgan Rhodes

Another book I’m not really sure what it’s about but I think it has to do with assassins and some big fantasy world. I’m a fantasy fanatic so no problem there!

9. The Winner’s Curse (The Winner’s Trilogy) by Marie Rutkoski

I’ll be honest, the covers for this series have always turned me away. I thought it must be some love story full of fluff and zero depth a la The Selection series. However, someone informed me that the story is actually completely different than the vibe it gives off. So I bought it and now we will see if they are right!

10. Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard

Yeah, I’m pretty sure I’m not going to enjoy this series because it sounds like Aveyard took ideas from a bunch of other YA novels and then just smooshed them all together to create this story. So original. *SARCASM*

So here you have my Top 10 hyped books TBR that I own. I’m actually have way more than 10 but I’ll do you all a favor and keep to just the required 10 books. Have y’all read any of these books? What are you experiences with them?

My Weekly Hyped Read

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

I should finish this book up today and I’m enjoying it, just waiting for that wow moment. The writing is great, the characters are great, I’m engaged in the story, but something is just keeping me from falling in love. What is wrong with me?! I think I need to read a fantasy soon and mix it up a bit. I’ve read too many contemporaries lately and it’s frying my brain, I think. Yeah, that’s an issue! Fantasy and Sci-fi are my bread and butter.

But seriously, did anyone else have the same issue with this book? Or does a certain genre do this to you too, or is it just me?

Well thank you for joining in on our first Hype or Like Friday! Leave me your list in the comments or a link to your post if you want to join. All are welcome! Until next week…
