WWW Wednesday – March 30, 2016

Welcome to WWW Wednesday which is currently being hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. It’s really just a place to do little update on what all you’ve been reading lately. Anyone is welcome to join, just leave a link to your post in the comments!

The Three Ws are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading…

Physical Book

A Darker Shade final for Irene

A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic, #1) by V.E. Schwab

I’m gonna be honest, while I am enjoying this book, it is just not living up to all of the hype. I’m not the biggest fan of Lila. She seems like a bit of a try-hard and Schwab went overboard trying to make her into this badass independent woman. I’ve really only connected with Barron and he didn’t even last long! Is it just me? Does it get any better? Did anyone else have this problem?

NetGalley ARC Book

Nora & Kettle by Lauren Nicolle Taylor

I’ve only made it through 3 chapters of this book and I don’t really know if I like the writing style. It seems a bit disjointed and kind of bounces around. Also, the first 2 chapters were just really depressing. I have a really hard time with domestic violence because I just don’t understand how someone can hurt a child on purpose, so reading about it just doesn’t mesh well with me.

The Lie Tree by Francis Hardinge

I loved this book. It was creepy, mysterious, and was all about strong women in a time where they’re supposed to be meek and subservient. Hell yes! So glad I was able to snag it from NetGalley right before it was archived. Full review can be found HERE.

Gracie’s Song by Michelle Schlicher

This book was a really good contemporary. I don’t usually enjoy contemporaries very much, as they’re just not my type of genre. However, I really liked this one and it was so nice of Michelle to send me a copy of her novel. I definitely recommend this book to any New Adult fans out there! Full review HERE.

So if you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you will know all about my first experience at the public library. Some of you will be like, but why are you just now going to the public library?! Well, you used to could only get a Longview Public Library card if you paid Longview taxes and since I live in Hallsville, I couldn’t do that. I’m not sure when it changed but apparently anyone can get a card there now with a Texas driver’s license. So yesterday I made my first trip to the library and was BLOWN AWAY! Like I swear it’s the coolest place ever. I plan on spending an afternoon this weekend just going up there and reading. So anyways, you’re allowed to check out up to 15 books for 3 weeks but I decided to stick with only 6 for my first time. (I also have 42 unread books already sitting on my bookshelf at home so, yeah, there’s that reason too). These are all books that I’ve been interested in reading but just wasn’t sure if I would enjoy enough to buy them.

NetGalley ARC Books

Both of these were released this month so I probably should hurry up and get on with them, huh?

As always, please leave a link below to your own WWW Wednesday post. If not, then just let me know what you’re reading or what you think about my list!

  1. Ooh I like this meme. I really wanted to read Dorothy Must Die. I love the Wizard of Oz. And the cover for The Lie Tree, let alone the synopsis is sucking me in. Everyone is vouching for Aristotle and Dante, so I better get on that one. Good choices!

  3. The Lie Tree sounds so intriguing! I’m adding this on and Nora and Kettle, I think I could enjoy it too. Gracie’s Song is already on my TBR, I’ve heard good things about it.
    Happy reading!

  4. I didn’t connect super well with Lyla, but I liked Kell a good deal. He seemed very real to me and I enjoyed his point of view. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

  5. I Just finished reading The Other Side of Gravity and I really liked it but I felt there’s too much romance in the second half. I have Vengeance Road in my TBR but I haven’t gotten around to read it yet. I hope I’ll get to it soon! 😀

    1. I’m interested in seeing what it’s all about. I didn’t read the synopsis really when I got it haha!.. I’m about 100 pages in Vengeance Road and I really really like it. It’s fun and a nice change of setting from the typical YA novels.

  6. I’ve been wanting to read Walk on Earth a Stranger for the longest time, but haven’t gotten to it yet (I feel like I say this about every book…). Also, SO many books that you included have such beautiful covers, I’m in love ❤ ❤
