Musing Mondays – March 14th, 2016

Musing Mondays is a weekly theme hosted by the lovely MizB @ Books and a Beat, that asks you to answer one of the prompt questions and that week’s random question.

PROMPTS:

  • I’m currently reading…
  • Up next I think I’ll read…
  • I bought the following book(s) this past week…
  • I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I can’t wait to get a copy of…
  • I wish I could read ___, but…
  • I blogged about ____ this past week…

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: Approximately how many books do you usually read per week? Per month?

I bought the following book(s) this past week…

25785357 Firstlife (Everlife #1) by Gena Showalter

I’ve been seeing this book some recently on bookstagram so when I saw that my local bookstore had an autographed copy, I figured why not go ahead and see what it’s about. The premise seems really interested and that cover is gorgeous!

8349244 Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma

I’ve heard some really good things about this one. The subject matter in this novel may make some people a bit squeamish and disgusted, but I think that’s what drew me to this book in the first place. I’m not always in the mood for a feel good story, sometimes it’s nice to get a little dark.

There aren’t very many fantasy standalones since the world building takes a bit more time. I’m interested in seeing if Holly Black’s book is able to handle the pressure. I’ve read mixed things so I’m ready to find out for myself since this will be my first novel of her’s that I’ve ever read.

Random Question: Approximately how many books do you usually read per week? Per month?

This is a bit of a tough one because it really just depends on the week and month. And it really depends on the type of books that I’m reading. If it’s something that I’m really interested in or is a pretty easy read, I can knock out a book in less than 48 hours. It really just depends on the situation but I guess I average about 3-4 books a week (and that may be a little on the lower side).

    1. Yeah, I’m a pretty fast reader and tend to be a bit of a night owl so I get a lot of reading done then. Oh yes, Forbidden is going to be one of those books that I’m gonna have to have a discussion about. It’d make a good book club read. 😊

  1. I’d say I read 2 books a week on a good week, but then I’ll skip another week entirely. Its really not as regimented as I’d like it to be, since sometimes I have an awful or hectic week. If I can get a book a week consistently, I’m happy. Two books, and I’m doing cartwheels in the street.

    1. Oh, yeah it definitely depends on how my week is or what books I’m currently reading! I finished The Grisha Trilogy in just a few days but it took me over a week to read Outlander. There’s also those weeks where I’d rather binge watch Netflix than pick up a book. 😉
